Was just Giving another aspect of the same technique I stitch fish as well. When stitch fishing I think it is absolutely critical to have a blank through handle rod. Even though you have the added sensitivity of having the line in your hands that helps the other hand in feeling strikes that come down the blank of the rod that you would otherwise miss. It is a painfully slow but very effective way to fish for bass but it is a must to recover the line that you pull in frequently to avoid tangles and mishaps. Do you fish weightless when you are stitch fishing? I do 90% of the time but in Deepwater I will add a small split shot above the worm like a micro Carolina rig just to get the worm down a little quicker.

I have "stitched" a few times, but without success. I'll just have to keep doing it until I catch enough bass to gain confidence in it.

I used a cheap $15 crappie rod last year stitching. There is no need to have a high dollar rod since the rod has very little to do with stitching. I usually stitch 12 times with three fingers before I take up all the line, if you are using 2 fingers you can take it up to 15 times.

I always use a small split shot about 8 inches above the worm. No more, no less.

I have caught several fish over 21" long doing this.

One day I was fishing a old creek channel and caught five BIG girls in one afternoon.

Another day I caught seven real decent bass off one chunk of wood.

It's a killer way to fish.

I got it to jump a few times which always makes it fun.

Most of the big fish will jump at least one time, sometimes as many as three times.

I had one bite this afternoon.

She picked it up and ran towards me. The line just when slack. This was my third cast on this spot and I didn't have my boat anchored as I should have and it was moving around so at first I thought it was a false read. By the time I figured it out I didn't get the hook set I wanted. She bolted to the left about 30 ft, pulling drag like mad. Then she stopped and started shaking her head, she tossed the worm.

If you have ever had a fish shake her head trying toss it? I feels real cool. You can see the rod tip bounce back and forth.

I caught a few dinks after that.

I blew my one shot, I hammered that spot for next four hours and never had another BIG fish.
