Hopefully we get enough rain to fill all our lakes up and get back on track with our normal annual rainfalls in the next few years and there will be an abundance of water for the lakes as well as for the water districts to sell.

Did the surge in fracking for shale gas increase water usage? I'm sure it did. How much water per gas well?

On another note...Why aren't desalination plants more common?

The frac work in that area is a very small percentage of what it was 5 years ago, natural gas prices shut them down.

I work on the water side and it's pretty simple as population goes up more water will be pumded from area lakes like eagle mountain for more water supply! The water being pumped out of eagle mountain goes right over to the treatment plant off boat club road!

On most lakes property owners using lake water for yard sprinklers make no difference at all in the water level. Lose more to evaporation than they will use.

Agriculture use pumping through 12" to 16" pipes do make a difference. We have to eat though and lakes are increasingly being used as multi purpose bodies of water.

Yes water is already the next gold.

Got to have air and got to have water or you can't live there.

I hope people wake up soon and realize that the water problem in this state is now real!! What we see in the DFW and North Texas area now will soon be making its way to the Houston area as well. We have already seen the city of Houston tap into Lake Conroe a few years back and its has only just now started to recover from that draw down. Livingston is next!! While its true, these reservoirs were built for water storage, the more we can learn from DFW and the North Texas problems, the better off we will be down here. Hope you guys up North get some significant rain soon!!

We get about 20-30 MGD from Eagle Mountain every day during the summer. The plant's capacity is 250 MGD now I believe .

Sprinklers from lake front land owners is not a huge issue in the grand scheme of things. But the entitlement is the same never the less.

Here ya go:

12 gpm (gallons per minute) per irrigation zone
X 20 minutes per zone
= 240 gallons per cycle
X 4 zones
= 960 gallons per day
X 4 days per week
= 4800 gallons per week
X 700 lawns around lake
= 3.36 million gallons per week
= approximately 10.3 acre/feet per week
= 41.2 acre/feet per month

I'd say there is some impact from watering lawns around a good sized lake.

I can kinda see the argument FOR allowing that though... I mean the excess water does go right back into the lake, but I guess it would contribute to lake levels dropping due to evaporation.

The LCRA were looking for homeowners without permits. Gotta be permitted.

Exactly. Just remember, we water from the lake. You water with water that has come from this same lake.

Few years ago the Dallas Morning News ran an article on what some high profile people in Highland Park water bill one was over $5,000 and the other was almost $15,000 per month. I really believe that is totally ignorant. Anyone who wants to know who these people were PM me and I will let you know.
