A few weeks back there was an article in the Fort Worth newspaper about Lake Worth being 100 years old. It talked about the dredging project and that the goal was just what Big Red 12 said - to increase the holding volume. There was also another interesting note I did not know. The City of Ft. Worth has a contractual agreement with Lockheed not to let Lake Worth get more than 4 ft. low because Lockheed uses water from the lake for its operation. This explains why there is often a small release from Eagle Mtn lake into Lake Worth even though EM is also low.

In memory of my childhood friend Dan Sterling, who taught me at an early age how to catch bream with a hand-line, and who unknowingly hooked me on fishing for life.

I have been fishing Lake Worth since 1997 when I transferred here for my final duty station. The lake was great back then. I think its been taken over by the carp and sand bass. The waters been down a few years and my guess is the bass fry don't get much of a chance now. I sure do miss flipping some reeds!

I'd love for it to fill up...besides it being shallow max depth lake, I like it bc it has a little bit of everything. Veg, docks, pilings, timber etc. Monte you know my uncle Bubba, he said out of all the years he's fished LW 2 times & caught one 9 & just never fished it again. Oh well..lets hope for some water from the sky soon!

I have lived on the lake for 42 years, been fishin' it as long as I can remember.
My father has lived on the lake longer than anyone has. He is the longest residing resident on the lake at 70 years and counting.
Watched them dredge everyday for two years.
The lake will never fall more than about 3.70 ft. low, and that has been like this since about '82, after upgrades to the spillway. Bridgeport and EM will get drained before they allow LW to fall below 4 ft. low.
For reasons that are stated above, as well as others.
However, being 3.5 ft low is equivalent to another lake bring 10 ft low.
In relative terms, that is.
Without a doubt, it makes fishing pretty darn tough at times.
If you could have seen the lake in the late 70's, early 80's, many opinions may change.
It was loaded with cover, primarily cattails and docks. Sure, there is still both there, but nothing close to how it used to be. Pictures from the 50's and 60's when my pops was growing up can really boggle your mind.
Got my first "real" bass boat at 12, and you could catch the piss outta the bass, 25-30 every time you went out. Needless to say, I was popular amongst my buddies. Lol
You may see one or two more fishing boats at that time, that was about it.
In my opinion, the lack of cover, and the overwhelming amount of pressure, are the two major factors that affect bass fishing. Honestly, I don't know where all of the bass fisherman came from the last ten years. It's amazing how any fishermen there are today.( And that goes for all lakes ).
It had become popular, obviously. Lol
I think you all will see, the dredging will benefit the lake after the fish adjust.
Get out, drive around and look, you may be surprised at what it has done for the lake.
One last thing.........,.fish it enough, you will catch some toads.
You regulars know what I'm talking about.
