These cash and finance discussions are always good. Borrowing money at lower rates than you can gain on investments is something I don't understand. I am not talking about a savings account, we all know there is no interest there. The people that have $20 + to spend in cash are not letting it sit still in a savings account. Getting a good rate and paying extra each month and lumps when you can allow you to keep growing dividends and replenish the cash as you go. Oh well, there is never a winner in this discussion. Neither side will convince the other but it sure is fun.
Let us know if we can help with anything.
Thank you,
Ken

Have you shopped around for 10yr old boats. None are close to 5k unless it is complete junk. 20 yr old boats are going for 7-8k

I'm single and 21 and currently living with my mother due to personal reasons. My truck is finnaly paid off. I have a modest amount of bills witch I pay on time.

I really don't have any credit yet. A co signer is an option.

I work full time and make enough to pay my bills fulfill basic needs and have plenty left. If I was living on my own it obviously wouldnt be that way.

I just want something used or new in the 12-14 grand range. All aluminim xpress G3 tacker etc..

I clearly know nothing about the boat buying business. but I know I'm tired of the kayak.

I got my rig for 6500 2004 CC WITH 90HP Johnson because I shopped, I shopped the BOAT and the PERSON I bought it from. I have had three boats and paid cash for all of them. I have sold the previous two for 90% of what I paid for them as well. I know that I have had some luck but I did have some repairs on my first boat that bummed me out. I would advise you to find a boat style you like and then know that that style and motor combo basically will have a bottom value price at some point I believe. The trick is to find that style boat with the features that you want at that bottom price that has been taken care of, and to top it all off, you need to buy it form someone who is fair and has not over valued the boat! I know that that is alot but it can happen. Now this is solely for theory on paying cash which can work if you have the time to do the due diligence and are a good judge of character and have a little luck! lol

That being said, I definitely can see situations for financing and getting a new boat with a warranty. One day I will be able to get a new boat and I will most likely finance it. But it will not be a boat that is less than 30-40k I would think.

I was in your shoes not too long ago and have learned alot about buying and selling used boats, what to look out for and what to expect.

In simplest terms If it were me and fishing makes you as happy as it does me you will find a boat that fits your requirements and find a way to get it. If you can pay cash for it then do it. If not then find someone to help finance it. I do know that the older the boat the harder it is to get a good rate though. Just do some good leg work and you can find some great stuff out there!

Also keep your eyes and ears on Craig's list and some of the shopping pages on Facebook. I bought my first tournament rig; a Ranger, for about half of what it was worth because I ran up on someone that was about to loose it to the bank due to a loss of job. With the oil field backing down and the economy still in shambles these deals have to be out there.......One can argue cash VS finance, I say as long as what you buy can be bought as an asset and not a liability financing is fine, hence forth looking for a rig that someone wants out of bad enough to take a loss that puts you in it way under its actual value that allows you to sell it at a profit if you need to, get prearranged financing if you can and that gives you a lot more leverage in these situations......

I have a 2003 Skeeter SX 190 with Johnson 150.
It has two HB GPS SI graphs, 3 optimax batteries, newer tires and is in great shape ready to fish.
I will sell it for $8200 but I cant finance it for you.
