Hey Denis Christian, I'm sending you a couple of my Mepps replicas to try. Now that I think about it, these lures will work as well or better than Mepps. I might as well make the challenge because I have nothing to gain, or loose, on the test results. I actually have no idea how they will work. I made #3 and #4 sizes for you to try. In the photo below I show 4 #3's and 4 #4's, and a few that I made just playing around. The larger one on the left has a rattle in the blade. I wonder if that will work or make a difference. I will send you a #3 and #4 to test. I look forward to you testing them and reporting the great results! Thank you, and God bless you.

Pastor John: Thank you sir, and I will give them a good and fair test. Fish are still preferring #4 over #2 here at Cedar Creek. I don't use 3s very much but will test and compare to Mepps 3.

Those look great, PJ. I saw a few home made mepps and yours look the closest to the French tail spinner lures

Thanks guys. My powder coating skills are still very rough. With more practice I hope to improve. I used the parts that I had, without going to extreem measures to get exact duplicates for Mepps. I can bend the wire and put them together in a couple minutes. If I have to powder coat parts that takes a little longer. Easy.

Those do look great and bet they perform just as well as the originals in the hands of the master! Would be curious to know if you can use a little more weight for the body with the #2 blade and possibly prevent having to use split shot to get it down to bottom. I know on Lake Palestine it is getting real close to time to use small baits and I just don't have near the feel with the #2 as I do with the #4, even with the split shot I still have problems. It may effect the action too much but would be interested to know. Awesome job and nice of you send a few to DC for field testing!

Go with a lead body instead of brass and you would have the weight.
I've started casting my own bodies for spinners. Haven't had a chance to fish with that batch of spinners yet but I'm planning on going out tomorrow and give them a try. Nice thing about casting and painting my own bodies I can build a good spinner for under $0.50.
Semper Fi This Veteran heavily medicated for your safety. Keep me fishing and all will be well.

Yours look great too Streetwalker. $.50 is very cheap compared to what it cost to buy and probably even more rewarding catching fish with something you made.

ATM97 Streetwalker is right. You could easily use a lead body that would give it the weight necessary on a small spinner. There is not a great deal of difference from the #3 to the #2 mepps except the blade. The body is slightly shorter but everything else is the same. I would think we could change the blade on a #3 and shorten the wire some, and put a short shank hook on it and it would be heavy and small.
benp there is nothing I would like more than to fish Monday. Unfortunately I have a year long training program at work that culminates with a presentation to the board. I will be neck deep in work until a week Saturday. I have not been fishing in forever. The only fix I get is bending some wire for lures.

Pastor John/ATM97: I'm with you on a heavier #2 if you can use lead in place of brass and make the body only slightly larger. The #2 does have smaller hooks, which is important to me when fishing submerged bridges. There's less chance of hooking the rail as I crank it over the rail.
