Honey Hole video brought up an interesting question to the TPWD and I didn't hear an answer. It sure seems most of the 'stocking' of lakes are Dallas and east ward. What lakes are stocked and when? There has to be a list and a schedule but I haven't seen or heard of it. I know it takes years for these fingerlings to mature. Does anyone have such a list and schedule?

http://www.tpwd.state.tx.us/fishboat/fish/You can find out after the fact by looking at public water stockings on the link. All the private places they stock are who ever has the money and gives to the right politician.

OK, good history but, when and where for future? This according to their own website: "Largemouth bass stocked in 2014
Return to fish stocking search page
No Largemouth bass were stocked in Texas this year."

I have a question about the productivity of the stocking program. Do you thing our lakes have too many different species of fish, especially the rough fish that are eating the eggs and fingerlings, to get ahead of the game?
It seems to me a removal program would be productive. Lakes like Falcon, Amistad and the Mexico lakes are netted which removes a majority of these fish. These lakes grow bigger bass and when the conditions are right the catching is just unbelievable.
I understand there are many other factors involved in making a great fishery; but should we be concerned that the program is just feeding the fish? Are we taking one step forward and two steps back? Isn't a forage stocking program just as important?

Well, checking the TPWD website, there was zero also stocked in 2012 AND very few in the preceding years back to 2005? There were quite a few more stocked then and before but since, the numbers are small and I don't see the 'major' lakes listed hardly at all. I wish I had the answer to your question and to mine. Their plans on where/how many and when would all be good to know for future years to come.

Lee, I think you are using the search tool incorrectly. The TPWD site shows 11 million Floridas stocked in 2011. With several million stocked each year since. I would imagine they just haven't yet entered the data for 2014.

Thanks to Tomcat, I was using the wrong 'search' feature - searching 'Largemouth' not 'Florida' strain. But my original questions still remain. They don't publish a schedule of future/where/when or do they?

I think stockings are closely related to the surveys, and they are done every two years.

I think they are required to survey every lake in Texas once every 4 years. Larger more popular lakes get it more often though.
Many lakes don't get the attention others do, I believe the traffic to particular lakes has a large influence on that as well.
They do stock forage fish, but it seems that usually happens when lakes are newish.

They don't publish a schedule of future/where/when or do they? They cannot publish a list of which lakes and how many until the shock surveys are complete. These surveys dictate the needs of the 16 different inland fisheries regions. They do not know the amount until they know how successful the spawn was for that particular year.

Ahhhh yes, stockings of public lakes! I suppose public lakes get put on the back burner so the private lakes can get the publics share? I won't even get into the la P. debate again since my comments were deleted by the moderators.

Cypress Springs hasn't had a stocking in yeeeaaars... they concluded there is not enough habitat to protect the fingerlings.
