Well I think I finally have them figured out. My next question is what are the heaviest grain sinking lines and what is the sink rate per second? Need to get flies down to about 30 feet of water as quickly as possible. Have dinner on ice already good start.

Nice job bud. I knew if anyone could figure out how to get them, you would. Hey I caught a big sand bass 2 days ago out of a 1 acre municipal pond along with 27 largemouth bass. None of the bass were huge but I was using ultra light tackle. The sandy cracked me up. Great memories of the early Spring.

Yea you should head out to the Sabine with us next spring I still have three pound sandys in my dreams lol. The guy who was working at the park today thought I was kidding when I said we've been fishing for walleye the last two weeks He took a picture of one today to put on the website.

Caught a bunch of really nice bass today as well up to 6 pounds as well as what would've been another lake record channel cat.

Orvis makes a nice sinking line called depth charge. The heaviest, 550 gr., is "rated" for 12-13 wt. rods and the sink rate is quoted as 6.75"/sec. However, with the head cut in half and with either a running line or even better tied directly to the backing, it seems to sink a little faster. It's still "chuck and duck" with an 8 or 9wt. but not nearly the workout of casting the whole line. I believe heavy and short sinking heads are out there; my experience was a "make something work" solution far from the nearest fly shop. cool

In this life there is fly fishing and tying...and then there is all that other stuff in between that doesn't matter.

Check out Rio Outbound Short. BTW 6-7 seconds seems slow, but actually its rather fast.

I got 1.6IPS and it sinks pretty good.
