I have a lot there, hopefully going to build a house this fall, thought about putting a feeder in the back yard if there are deer around.

There are some pigs and the occasional turkey as well.

I used to have a home at Holly Lake Ranch that overlooked an island in a 20 ac lake. Does would bed their fawns on the island all the time. Go feed, then swim back to the island to nurse the fawns. Once the fawns start weaning, momma doe will make them swim from the island to shore where they could begin eating a typical diet. I think this is what's going on at Lake Athens. There is a small island full of trees and cover about 20 yards from the bank. Seen fawns on the island and the doe swimming back and fourth.

deer have hollow air filled hair . folks that tie dry flies for trout know this . it makes deer rather buoyant and they can swim for miles if need be . every winter on Kodiak island the black tails leave in large herds due to a lack of food and swim for it ....some tragically don't make it though in the open sea . i do know a bud who saw a doe hit the water at full speed years ago ,,,,and within seconds 2 coyotes hit the water right behind her ...the 3 of them swam across the lake and hit the other side running . i seen deer in Arkansas myself hit the Ouachita river when walker hounds were runnin em as well .they swim very well and are survivors for sure ...nice post

Grayson County is bow only for deer, but TBH I wouldn't use a rifle around there anymore. The last few times I've been up there to zero my rifle the sheriff ends up getting called by somebody. We have plenty of land to shoot it on, but it never fails.

I've seen them in Tawakoni just standing out waist deep like cows, trying to cool off I guess.
