Thinking about replacing the carpet and possibly adding a pad to the front deck on my boat. Does any one have recommendations on where to get carpet and closed cell foam? Adhesive recommendations would be great too. Thanks!

http://www.thefoamfactory.com/closedcellfoam/closedcellfoam.htmlThis is where I got my foam for a boat did a few years back. If you google marine carpet, the places that sell marine carpet will send you samples. I can't remember which was which but a couple of the samples I got were really good. I got Samples from Bass Cat also, they have good carpet too.
Thanks, Billy

basscat has the best carpet imo. it's only available in 6' widths so you may have to seam it. for padding use Pro-Tech Mats. the best foam and reasonable prices. you have to use a spacial adhesive on the closed cell foam that doesn't need to be exposed to air to dry and cure. for adhesives use bird-song adhesives, product bsa-454. you can use weldwood contact cement on top of the foam to glue the carpet down. just finished the same job on our boat.

The Pro-Tech foam the boat manufacturers use is a 1/4" re-bond. If you want to go first class, order 3/8" virgin Pro-Tech Ortho Mat. Give them a call: http://www.protechmats.com/ I recommend that you use DAP Weldwood HHR Headliner and Landau Contact Cement. Spray it on with a cheap Harbor Freight spray gun. It will hold at high deck temps, and you don't have to worry about it oozing through the carpet if you get it on too thick. It works fine on both sides of the Ortho Mat too. A tip about putting down the foam padding: Cut it about 1/2" short of the full size on all edges and taper the edge to a 45 degree angle if you can. This will enable the carpet to transition to the deck nicely. It looks much better too. Like painting, preparation is critical, and it's a pain. Get the best carpet you can afford to make it worth your effort, and use good materials.

vdavid. phish is right about the protech mat. when you talk to them they will give you all your options so you can get what's right for you and fits into your budget. i don't know about the spray adhesive. i've used both and found i had much better coverage and more uniformity with the brush and weldwood. we didn't have any come through the carpet. i do have to go back and re-cement a few places where i sprayed in the storage compartments that are now coming loose. i guarentee you it won't come loose after i brush it on. tapering the foam around the edges is a must. take a look at the pictures i sent you and you'll see the taper on the compartment lids. if you run the foam all the way to the edge you won't be able to open your lids all the way because of the thickness of the foam and carpet. doing it the way we did and phish suggested and you'll have no issues. also cut back the foam about an inch around the holes for your latches. again check out the pics. i actually cut back about 1 1/2" around the front deck and tapered the edges to be sure i had good solid contact of the carpet to the deck and a smooth transition. up there you can't wrap the carpet around like you do on a lid. prep is everything!!!! DON'T PULL ANY CARPET THREADS AROUND THE EDGES OF THE CARPET. IT WILL UNRAVEL AND YOU'LL RUIN YOUR WORK. USE A PAIR OF SMALL SCISSORS TO CUT ANY THREADS. we used our berkley scissors for cuting braided line and they worked great. here's the before, during and after. lots of trimming, adjusting, and fitting before you glue anything. once your ready to glue the deck, put a couple gallon paint cans on one side to hold the foam in place and start glueing in sections from the other side and work your way across. i also used a small carpet roller to make sure the glue was worked into all the valleys on the carpet backing.
