Im on my second Ram 2500 4x4 I will never buy another one My first was bought back after a battle with chrysler because the brakes would lock up and cause loss of control even when I was just slowing a bit .The truck had ABS! My second truck had the transmission go out on the way home from the dealership on the first day I got it.The truck is an 01 with 70,000 miles and is on its 6th tranny. I have put 3000 miles on and 3 trannys in the truck in the last 4 years . I tried to trade it off when it was a year old, I gave $40,000 for it and was only offered $19,000 for it.I put $20,000 down ..what a mistake.

Won't really matter. With the longevity of the Cummins, I'll be driving mine a long long time.

Where did you hear that they lost the cummins? I haven't heard that one. I'm not so brand loyal but I love mine. Maybe Dodge will have a Mercedes diesel.

Well heck....that is about all Dodge had going for it...although the Mercedes diesel may not be all that bad...some of the new fleet trucks where I work have the new Mercedes diesels but they are still too new to get any ideas from them.. To the poster back aways who did not like hearing them running....get use to it...in a few years they'll be idling everywhere...heehee...I let mine idle all the time and at work I drive one of the giants of the highway....can go 0 to 60 in about 3 minutes with near 40 tons...it belches black smoke and rattles like a thousand monkeys banging on a wash tub...12 hrs a day 5 days a week and I'm loving every minute of it....this country was built on freedom and if I choose to drive a diesel...which I do..Powerstroke of course..I did start with a Dodge though...and let it idle at the store... I can...and it sounds like there are plenty out there that feel the same way...at least its not like Russia where every car is the same color, brand, and model, and the only differnce is the plate number... :p

All of the diesel engine manufactures are having to either redesign or start from scrtach and build a new engine due to the 2007 diesel engine emission laws. I am not sure what Cummins is doing to thier engine but I can tell you it will be nightmare for a year or so. We are running 3 Cat test units (heavy duty truck engines. Not only have they added more hard parts, such as, a "flame thrower" which burns off the unburned fuel in the exh. system, and a particulate trap in the exh system, but they have also added more software and sensors. And not only have they changed the engines, you will have to purchas an Ultral Low Sulfer diesel fuel, which none of the fuel stops have in stock yet. If you burn regular diesel in a 2007 engine, bad things happen to say the least.

Why aren't they putting smaller diesels into cars? I remember the older Mercedes and whatnot with the diesels got good performance and mileage, not to mention they lasted a long time. I would seriously consider buying a car like that but not some wierd European car. They are really doing some cool things with the fuel and once the bugs are worked out they could make gasoline obsolete. They'd only use it in boats, planes and small engines.
This is why we need to look at nanotechnology. I read a national geographic article where a filter was made out of carbon nanotubes that they had in a jar. In the top was crude, then they pushed it down through the filter and in the bottom was diesel. That quick! Of course I'm sure it needed further desulferization but it is so easy to refine and clean too. Amazing stuff...
