I have a 2004 F250 FX4 6.0 Diesel. Bought it with 15k on it and have 41k now. Been in for 2 recalls and a vacuum solenoid for the 4 wheel drive. Tons of power and mileage is around 16mpg city or highway. Pulls my 8k lb boat with ease. I am very happy with it so far. It is fun to have a 7000 lb diesel truck that will smoke the tires from a stop and run with the mustang GT's Joe

My brother and my dad both have 04 duramaxes, they are sweet, dad gets 18, brother with 4x4 gets 20, they both run like a spotted a$$ ape, pull like a mule, and have had no problems with them.
My uncle has 2 dodges, a 98 and an 04, the 98 gets 23mpg and the 04 gets 19, they both run strong and pull hard.
If I was looking for a truck, they would be the only two I would look at, and would more than likely go ahead and get a goat, cant beat that cummins with a stick.

I just got my 1st Diesel p/u, it is a 2000 F-250 with a 5 speed manual tranny & I LOVE IT!!! It is averaging 16&1/2 mpg pulling my BBQ WAGON!!! I drove trucks for 30 years, owned Cats & Cummins & had good luck outa both, but that POwerstroke is an AWESOME pulling machine! I will never go back to a Chevy truck & I've been a diehard Chevy man all my driving years!I've built & drag raced Chevy smallblocks & always cussed a f1234ing old Ford!LOL!Now I swear by 'em instead of at 'em! I know a guy that has a Duramax & it will not pull a slick!@#$ out of a lard bucket!! LOL! My Ford only has 48,000 miles on it, that will be the last truck I will ever buy, its a gonna last me the rest of my life unless something bad happens.
Keep your powder dry & don't fire until you see the whites of their eyes!!

After my recent accident, I needed a truck ASAP. TFF'ers Chris Tilton (Ford) and Monte Coon (Chevy) both responded to my questions on the Forum and sent me e-mails with more detailed info. Neither one placed any pressure on me and were a ton of help in quickly getting into a new truck. I ended up going with the Ford 250 Super Duty with a Power Stroke diesel. It fit my tastes a little better, but both vehicles are great and the Chevy is very quiet and the seats are really comfortable and it has a really strong motor. I'm sure I'd be happy in either truck. Since I needed a truck right away, I wasn't able to buy one from Chris because he didn't have the right one on the lot that particular day. Even though he didn't get the sale, Chris took the time to call me and helped me make sure I got a great deal on my truck. If I go with another Ford in the future, you can be sure I'll go with Chris and Bob Utter Ford. Chris and Monte, if you are ever headed to Fork, drop me a note and I'll let you know the where's and how's. And now that I have a tow vehicle again and my body isn't quite so stiff, I'm looking forward to giving a few of those bass at Fork whiplash!! Good Fishing, Tom

He said, "Throw your net on the right side of the boat and you will find some." When they did, they were unable to haul the net in because of the large number of fish. Jn 21:6

If your buying used try to but a pre jan 2004 truck. They did not have cats on them, which mean slighty better fuel mileage.
I bought an allison transmission, if that matters.

I drive a 2004 3/4 ton 4x4 cummins. And I will be first to tell you the fuel mileage sucks(13-14mpg) and also the front end, u-joints(replaced rears at 19000 miles and replaced all u joints 3 times and its just got 65000 on it know also had to put on brand new front drive shaft), and brakes(six sets 3new brake lines) It will pull the world down but It is a dodge and that apparently is the problem. I get 13-14 mpg without boat and 13-14 with my 20' Bass Boat so dont believe all the dodge hype baecause I own one and there is a reason there 10000 cheaper cause you will need the money for repairs Just my .02 cents.. Traded my 99 powerstoke and I should have just kept it and been alot better off.

You guys must either have monster boats or like big trucks. I pull my boat with a 1/2 ton truck, but use a '96 F250 Powerstroke for farm work. I've pulled 18,000 lbs of hay and trailer with that thing, and besides the fuel bill, have no problems.

joeu235, neither for me. I like efficiency. My last truck was an 86 Toyota one ton. Got 26 or better highway and 18 pulling my boat. Beat all the 1/2 tons easily but with 240 thousand and blown head gasket(my fault, I went cheap on a radiator replacement) I got the next best thing. Dodge diesel. Back a few years ago Cummins was celebrating their 1 millionth Dodge engine sale and they had a 1 million mile Cummins that was a daily puller used to transport travel trailers. It was only a 7 or 8 year old truck. They had complete records for that truck and it had less replacements than Colter Fleming had in his post above. Mine has had a sensor, fuel transfer pump and power steering pump replaced(it leaked when new and was replaced in the first few months). I have 124 thousand on it. I have added aftermarket 100 horsepower injectors and timing box along with Bilstein shocks. Oh and the front brakes were changed around 70 thousand along with a front disk as the pads do not have the squealing wear detector and I ruined the original.
I plan to keep my truck till it becomes untrustworthy or too expensive. Nobody knows for sure but unless the diesel picture changes I hope to get 250 to 300 thousand out of mine.
I am wrong but you can not prove it, you just believe it enough from the bottom of your heart.....
