I was embarrassed when I saw my jigs compared to the others. There were some fantastic jigs in this swap. I had been tying for a week at the time. I can't wait for another jig swap to redeem myself. Well I didn't any jigs in this swap that wouldn't catch fish nor require any redemption! Jig swaps are where you learn different ideers, see different materials and how they be used, different color combos, different jighead types, painting ideers and a whole host of other stuff. Me thinks you did just fine especially with only a week of tying under yer belt. These swaps are a fantastic place to learn how to get mo betta at tying. I say everybody did a fine job fer sure!

Heck no bud, those look fine to me. I'd tandem fish a larger profile like yours below a smaller profile on top and let a crappie choose her ill.

Well since you brought it up,anyone notice the paint noses on some jigs including mine? That's from too much powder paint on the jig. Getting jig too hot before dipping,or double dipping. I'm guilty, that oven sure tattle tells on you don't it? We could use a holding setup that puts the nose up in the air while in the oven letting the excess paint run down the hook, but hanging on the rack is fine with me.Also taking my chenille wraps too far on some jigs. But never had a problem with it but you don't want to sell them like that. Also, my glow chenille was a short card, had to use a white backing in order to get the dia I wanted on the finished product. Basically,I had to stretch the glow chenille out. Not making name references, there are 4 guys in the swap that are sure great. Consistently producing quality jigs everytime all the time. Hats off to you. For simple guys like me,I just don't have the patients to take the time to make a master piece and them go get it stuck on a tree. Anybody else have tips to improve on?

Man, I am so glad to hear that!!! I just started tying seriously at the first of the year and joined these swaps so I could learn more from some of the pros on here. I made that one day while I was just messing around and turned out to be a great crappie catcher for me so I included it in that swap. Glad it worked for you and hopefully others as well. Hope this one was the one you were talking about!!!!

For simple guys like me,I just don't have the patients to take the time to make a master piece and them go get it stuck on a tree. Anybody else have tips to improve on? Sometimes it's just the powder paint. I have a few colors (yellow, some candy colors and flo chart) that will run no matter how careful or thin you try to coat them with. I built a little rack out of all-thread (3/8" and 1/4") so that my jigs are sticking straight up so if they run when I cure, the paint runs down on the hook shank. I can either cut off or just tie right over it. Here is a picture of mine. I made it to fit in those 9" square foil pans so any drippings are caught in the pan and I can cover with one on top and then just use the wife's oven which seems to be better as far as consistent temperature. Don't worry about lead poisoning, she hardly ever uses it.

Great to hear about your wife pepop. Continued prayers for both of you. Sorry I missed the LP GTG but I had to go out of town that weekend. Was looking forward to meeting you. Maybe next time. I will open up #31 on the 1st of Aug and shoot for completing in early September. Looking forward to it.
