Who doesn't like fishing with friends? Through this forum and kayak fishing I've met guys that have become lifelong buddies... I'm very thankful for that.
That said, when I bought the yak back in '08, I went like 2 1/2 years before I fished with anyone. I was plenty happy during that time because I was catching fish! My best days in terms of quality I've been by myself. I think there's a kind of zen focus I get into sometimes when alone that really dials me in to what the fish are doing. I'm also much more willing to experiment with locations and techniques when I'm solo. I'm kind of a lunatic in terms of the crazy put ins I'll attempt, the distance I'll paddle and the dawn til dark on the water time frame my obsession drives me to. I feel guilty subjecting others to that sometimes so the plan will change on occasion. Though there are some guys who are right there with me on those days... I think I'm getting better at finding that "focus" when I fish with those guys.
I kind of agree with some of the the sentiments about how much emphasis there is about "growing" the sport. Honestly I don't think it needs that much help! There are times I wonder, "Where the hell did all these kayakers come from anyway!?!?" Some days I'd like to shrink the sport LOL! Now growing the tournament scene? That's a different matter. I think we're still in the stage where we're trying to make our tournaments exactly like the PB tourney scene. Kayaks are not powerboats. Kayak fishermen are not PB tourney guys, at least not a lot of them. But I digress...
I love fishing with the guys... It would suck if I couldn't do that. But it would also suck if I couldn't get 'zen' solo time too...

Would you rather fish alone or with somebody? Yes! Mostly alone but I do enjoy the fellowship with other fishermen!

I fish alone most often just because I go whenever life lets me and it's usually a spur of the moment thing. I have and do fish with a couple guys on here and enjoy it. I'm gonna fish somewhere every chance I get regardless, so I never have to worry if someone shows or not. I just go
