got a mid level variable speed minnkota. 55. more than enough, should be good to have reserve if the winds kick up. I'm no boat Captain, but front mount has been working out better for a lot of folks on another forum. Will have to make a fixed rudder for the back. Not a problem, even with my lack of skills Anyway, their experience has been better wind handling and seeing those dang stumps. supposed to be more power efficient. of course that's how my now-gone 17' boat worked, and I liked being able to pull up to structures and hook on. if it rides poorly and wet with me and the motor in front, I'll put it on back. I have ZERO plans on crossing the open water and waves!

No I don't get to fish everyday but I have caught some nice ones off the bass hunter (pics).
I use a cheap lowrance unit.
My boat will run off and leave your battleship because I have a special prop.
Haha.

To be fair I am not sure who caught that fish in the last picture.
Props might go out to RSD2009 for that one, I'm not sure because I was just pulling pictures off my hard drive to show you the kind of fishing you are going to have now.
Enjoy that new boat!

lol, oh if only "having a boat = fish" was true... turns out, just as hard in deeper waters as is from the bank. except of course for those Sandbass schools....now that is fishing fun!

Enjoy that new boat! Yep...that was one of my pics. And I also fish out of a Basshunter like FFM. Here are a few I got recently: Just over 6LB 5LB 5LB

OK, so it is Rudder time... on hand, I have a nice piece of Aluminum, perfect thickness. But only 8-7/8" square. Would that be large enough ? I do have a 12"sq piece of G10 fiberglass also thick enough. not as easy to find, so holding back on it. And here is what I am going to try... I cannibalized an old trolling motor, for its mount and tube (good). Has a Plastic mount(bad). Removed the head and motor. Drilled 4, 1/4" holes in the shaft to mount a rudder plate. possible fail: Not sure if the shaft can be tightened enough - do you think the rudder will move left/right under normal use ? Old Neptune exerts a lot of force with his water thanks for your thoughts. even the ones about "just put the motor on the back where it belongs, dummy". lol.

BTW, FFM, got a Lowrance that looks a lot like yours. And I'll be sure to come up with a crazy way to mount it.
