The term "drought" is a term that is way over used. It's minuscule in our water shortage issues in Texas today. The 30%+ growth in population w/o adding any new reservoirs since the late 80's is the true reason for the water shortage. You cannot up the consumption by 30-50% then add a couple down years in rainfall and expect to keep up. Texas' population went from 16.4 million in 1990 to 25.2 million in 2010. Supply cannot meet our demand today, the lack of rain for a few years isn't really a "drought" statewide, more so out west. If so the tanks and ponds in a lot of the state would not be full in mid June. While you are praying for rain, also pray for some of these people to go back to where they came from  I think most of them moved to Irving its turned into a ghetto

Whatever happened to Southern hospitality? Sorry I'm not sorry Doug, we are in a drought and no I'm not going anywhere! But I do control my water usage from the city, I don't water my lawn. I'm not like everyone else that has waterfront property and pull from the lake they live on to water their precious grass.

I don't know if this is true but I heard a contributing factor was also the fact that fracking takes loads of freshwater that is put back into the location where the gas is pulled from. That fresh water has to come from somewhere.

Austins water use is nothing compared to what goes downstream.

Out here in west tx our water supply comes out of Ivie.It got some good need water added to it about 3 weeks ago. That will be gone soon. There is no way of knowing how many people are pulling water out of that lake .I have a water well at my house I rarely water my yard anymore just one area I like to keep nice for the grand kids. Only use the well for the house.Out of the city limits .City doesn't pipe water out of the city limits.

We are in an actual drought out here and if they built 10 new lakes we still would be in a drought. A drought is not defined by lack of holding water it is defined by low rainfall totals. Out here we are in the worst drought ever recorded. As far the OP statement, yes it will be GOOD when we do get some water.

lake wacos frog fishing has been good cause all the grass and high water, hopefully things turn around for you boys in the north

I tell you what not all water is wasted by consumers, I found a bad water leak behind my fence at a junction it is a bad leak the ground is like a swap probably 200 yards by 50 yards wide I have called the water provider 5 times to let them know about it, they say they can't find the leak. I will guarantee you it's leaking 30k gallons a month or more. Now the water is even running across the ground. Their response is the tech can't find a leak. I gave up after the 5th call, just makes me mad because we try to conserve water and it's being wasted right behind my house.

With all the shoreline growth that is going on now, there is going to be some killer fishing. Just hope I'm around to get in on it.   I don't want to get in on the whole drought vs. non-drought discussion but will definitely agree with this statement! After several years of devastating lows on Lake Conroe, we are blessed to be at full-pool and all of the new, flooded growth has made fishing on this lake really fun again. Praying that you guys up north and in the west can get some much-needed rain real soon and enjoy the same fishing we are so blessed to experience right now.

Make a little visit to their office. I bet they'll take you a little more seriously then. If it's that major of a leak, it sure needs to be dealt with.

We don't need to build a river, we need to dam some of em up. But there are to many tree huggers to allow that! Yeah more dams, start with the Colorado. It only has about 5, working out well so far. Check Travis and Buchanan's lake levels.
