Been shooting a Japanese TV show catching alligator gar and long nose with no hook. Alligator gar were caught on a snare and the longnose with nylon rope. Who is ready to take it the next level? We have trips available for next year. [img:center]http://[/img]

Best part is you don't have to wait to set the hook and I notice when you catch with a snare it don't make the other fish stop bitting. U can fish the same hole all day long.

I'm guessing the agar isn't sending out any distress signals (scent?) since there is no hook in her? Do you have any videos on this style of fishing? Looks...amazing! cheers

No doubt he is a much better guide but they are both first rate A-holes....doesnt take two min on the phone to figure out it would be a miserable day on the water to have to hang out with them!....my 2cents

slab I don't know what your problem is, but I have NEVER HAD A PROBLEM with but 1 group of Germans , I also know Bubba is a pleasure to fish with , I guess since " You have talked to us AHOLES" I THINK THE PROBLEM LIES WITH YOU , that's why I stay booked up and have people come back year after year

Great first post by the way

I am the best alligator gar guide because I have been doing this since 1999 , and this is all I do for a living just look at my post , there is NO OTHER alligator gar guide that catches the big gar like I do I am not bragging just stating a fact it is no longer bragging when you can do it, then its a fact
Sorry if my confidence bothers you

I can tell you Bubba has really improved and learned a lot since he quit bow fishing

Okay, guides. C'mon. Throw us a bone here. A rope, as it were. I've thrown rope in a creek teaming with gar. I trawled it behind my kayak with and without a bobber. I did cast and reel. I threw it right in front of them. I tossed it around sticks. Drug it right down the middle of the creek. Nothing! I'm about to bring a gun.

C'mon. Give up some pointers. Pleeeeeaaassseee? smile

Bine, not an expert. I use minnows on a float. The trick is let them pull the bobber down and swim w/it for 30 seconds...a minute or two...maybe three. Im not catching anything over 15-20lbs either. 100 lb gar sounds like fun though!!!!

Thanks.

I'm looking at Garzilla's rope lure. It looks short and has some shiny bits on it. I tried that. One brass spoon and one silver willow leaf spinner. Think bass lures with rope. I tried a long piece of just rope with red string, too. Nothing.

Like you posted, I'm thinking of going to minnows.

Ive done the rope trick before on long nose gar and caught alot. You cut a length of nylon rope and and pull apart the larger strands on the outside. What you have left in the middle is very fine strands of straight nylon. These fine strands i would tie to my braided line and the tie a small hook to one of the strands then add a minnow to the hook. Once they go for the minnow the fine nylon get tangled in their teeth.

Yep, exactly like that.

Ah-ha! There's a minnow in there! I did read someone else say they used a minnow scent.

Nice first post slabnasty

I've fished with guides from Calgary to San Pedro and Kirk is with out doubt one the friendliest guide I've ever fished with. Most guides are generally personable fellows. Those that aren't tend not to last too long.
