I like the 9" over the 7", works better on the bigger fish. Takes quite a few to get used to it. I recommend REALLY watching Chuck's videos repeatedly. There's a few small things that make it easier.

I am amazed at how sharp you can get that 9" knife and that the edge has held up surprisingly well.

I had just entered the crappie section to make a post asking if these things work as well as they show in their commercials. I had a feeling that it was like anything else sold on TV - doesn't work as well as they claim but sure seems intriguing

Great gift Mr. Bobcat clap
Anytime you get something to add to your fishing collection is a PLUS thumb
I might try one when my GE electric knife wears out, but it isn't showing any signs of distress yet rolfmao
Mrs. tboxfish got me an auto inflate life jacket, said I couldn't go night fishing till I learned to wear it all the time wife

I gurantee if you become proficient with it and keep it sharp it will do exactly what the commercials show ! The great thing about the bubba blade is the handle and where you place your thumb . I have other knives but just not as comfortable as the bubba .

I really hope you like your new gift, Bobcat. Besides keeping the blade sharp, my best piece of advice is don't try and push through the fish when you're running down the back bone. Instead, make quick up-and-down slicing movements and let the knife do the work. I tried pushing through the fish when I first started using the knife, out of habit from using an electric blade, and found myself getting very frustrated.

if they would make the top part of the blade near the handle serrated, then the bottom 60 percent the way it is, it would be a perfect knife for filleting thru the backbone, and then slicing the fillets off of the skin. Cut the fillet off the bones with the serrated part, flip the fillet over, then slide sharp bottom edge thru the meat.
I dont know of anyone who makes a combination serrated, and smooth edge knife. It would be killer though.

COMING SOON! .. THE STICKLE HOOK " the stay level sickle hook". sits level in the water with all knots.! Provides better hook sets and more natural jigging motion. No more adjusting the knot, gluing , or tying loop knots that cause the hook point to tangle in the loop, or worse knick the line.. The jighook that will make all others obsolete !

They are very good knives. I started filleting with a knife so going back to it was pretty easy. If you have someone else ribbing you can roll right along and don't need electricity and you aren't going to wear gears out!!! laugh

Don`t want to spoil the view of the bubba knife but I don`t like mine. I bought a 9in one at Academy and used it on a three fish Hybrids one crappie and went back to the electric knife. The electric knife works a lot better for me.
