I always have good intentions on fishing the deep water but don't have the confidence in it. I have bought the xd10 in different colors spent all kinds of money on other baits but always go and fish shallow with a frog. Mostly because I have been told to go here go there run up to this creek or that creek so I do and come up with nothing and give up and head to the banks where I can catch a few fish. Guess it just boils down to don't know where to go and no clue on what I'm doing when I get to wherever it is I was told to go. Maybe one day!

I hear you. My son and I have been to Fork several times and have only caught a few fish--no big ones. We are planning to go back this Wednesday and try again. I guess it is always the hope that the "big one" is right around the next stump that makes us go back. We do always have a good time regardless of the fish landed. He will be off to college in the fall and I will no longer have my fishing buddy.
Any tips on where they are will be appreciated.

A Martins Map is a great place to start. It will show you plenty of deep spots. If you can't read your graph, just fish them. Hit 5-6 spots and you're likely to catch fish. Takes time and many trips to build your confidence. I have zero confidence fishing shallow at Fork. Nothing like finding a big school deep and loading the boat!

I have one of those maps and can read my depth finder next time I come out all I'm bringing is the deep baits so I won't be tempted to go shallow.

hire a guide. i see the same ones fishing around me constantly. They will help you with reading your electronics and you can put together your own hot spots based on the depth/area you are fishing. Guys i see all the time recently (deep fishing) are.... James Caldemeyer, cody malone, eddie garrett....

UT, I'm not familiar with the Martins Map. Where do I find one?

Buy a lake map, like an old paper hot spot map.
Look for points of interest you want to hit. Things like road beds that cross timber, channel swings , long points etc.
Mark off the places you want to hit and go find them. Use your sonar, keep hitting spots until you see fish. Don't get the rods out of the locker until you see fish on the structure.
Then have at it.

I think you have the right idea with just taking out deep diving gear. The other thing is what type of water are you fishing? Trees, stumps, rocks creek channel. And what are you fishing with.bait type. Its easier to do something different with a style you are more comfortable.

The original post is exactly how i fish fork. I'm thinking deep on the drive over, but always end up in 8' or less. I'm so ready to break that habit!
