Lynn's Catfish Calendar 2015

Lynn's Catfish Calendar 2015 - 01/14/15 07:24 AM

Time to finally start up the 2015 thread for Lynn's Catfish Calendar (LCC).

For those just now tuning in, you can review previous years. The initial "brief" on the LCC was at the start of the 2010 thread. From time to time, I have added input concerning my Catfish Calendar. I didn't create it, I just discovered it. My Calendar works on YellowCats, BlueCats, and Gator Gars (use the YC days for GGs). For me, I have found that ChannelCats seem to bite more for me on BFT days. However, another local catfishermen said Channels hit best on ZIP days for him. I did not research Channels so I can't say anything for certain on them. Nor were Bullheads (MudCats/ MC) or WhiteCats (WC) included in my research.

For those into Crappie, I will share that preliminary results from one Crappie fishermen, it seems he has had best results fishing at night after dark into the mid twilight hours (say about to 3 AM or 4 AM). It seems to be best on BC days, especially nearer a New Moon than a Full Moon (darker seems to be better). And if it is slightly sprinkling (light rain shower), it is one after another hitting your poles (in the boat).

From time to time, I receive feedback concerning the Calendar. Here are two that truly made my day.

"Hey Lynn
Let me say I live by your calendar and have never taken the the time to thank you. I have a trip to Somerville planned this Saturday and my wife keeps asking me what your calendar says, which goes to show she believes in it too. She's really going to be skeptical when i tell her it says "zip" now. Oh well it's still time on the water.
Thanks for all you do"

+++++++++

"Other Note: (not a fish story) No one asked if I caught any fish. It was an unbelievable trip. had the jugs in by 3:30 pm or so. By 5 pm caught and released a 30 and a 24. kept a 12 and a few others. The next morning caught and released a 19, 17 , two 15s and a bunch of others. Pulled all the jugs at 1 PM. Couldn't fit anymore fish in my 162 QT igloo marine. Ended up with about 35 fish which resulted in 50 pounds of fillets. A whole bunch of 7-10 pound fish and another whole bunch of 4-6 pounders. An amazing amount of big fish. We were releasing 2 pounders... All in all in less than 24 hours we probably caught over 350 pounds. When I got home we had to use my ramps to slide the cooler out of the truck. Couldn't lift it. I normally yield somewhere between 25-28% of weight in fillets. Based on that I brought home 180-200 pounds of fish.
All jug fish were caught on turkey breast soaked in dead red... Started on a zip day(sunday, 27th) followed by a BC day. I don't mind telling you, it was at Fort Phantom Hill in Abilene....
Take Care Lynn, and thanks for always sharing your wisdom..."

In the 2013 Hard Copy, I shared 1 page of testimonies on the back of the month of December. I might post them here in this year's thread (2015) for some that did not get a hard copy then. All previous years can be reprinted should anybody wish to collect all back issues (2009/2010/2011/2013). 2012 I was hit with medical issues, but the Retrospect of the 12 months are on 2 pages in the 2013 Hard Copy. The 2014 did not make it due to items noted in the next paragraph, but the Retrospect (12 months) will be in the 2015 Hard Copy.

Sadly, 2014 fell thru the cracks as to getting a hard copy ready, this was due to the problems (distractions) that were occurring in Ukraine. Some of you know that my wife Elena & step-daughter Helen are in the eastern region in the city of Lugansk. After Crimea was taken over by Russia, then outside insurgents started coming into the city with the intent to take it over. Eventually it got bad enough to where their apartment area came under crossfire. So they & my in-laws had to exit. And sadly, they had to exit into Russia to stay with relatives. Lugansk & Donetsk are still under rebel control. So it was pretty crazy for 2014 & I was unable to get the Catfish Calendar hard copy together due to that. Currently all 4 are safe, Helen in Kiev (with her best friend & college classmate), Elena & Papa Sergei currently in Kharkov for passport renewals then back to Russia, and Mama Tanya working in Lugansk (with her eyes over her shoulder if it gets worse again- banks are not be working, electricity off & on, no mail service, no train service- she says everybody there is in survival mode of attitude). Ukraine grivna & Russian ruble both have been devalued in the past year. 2015 looks to be a little bit smoother.

Re: Lynn's Catfish Calendar 2015 - 01/15/15 07:05 AM

Several times over the years, I have shared that there are variables involved with the catfish calendar. A few for example ... There is what I refer to as "Bleedover", be it in front (preceding) of or at the tail end. I refer to the calendar as keying in on what I have referred to as a "roam/feed circuit switch". This is the reason I have shared that it works best with set lines, as they are placed in a specific area. While there may be fish in a given area where you set them, they may not stay there. They will eventually find them as they switch into this mode. The calendar keys in as to when they are triggered into roaming for food. Using Rod-n-Reels is different & if you have a scope, you can basically place food right in front of them. And most times they won't turn it down. Also, the calendar is based on natural foods available to the Cats. You can increase the odds by "spiking" it. Such as Dead Red, stink baits, and so on (which are amplified by their olfactory senses). Weather can also be a factor. I know as a teenager, I used to always set out a rod-n-reel in a big sleugh on our property back in the 70s just before a rain. And almost all of the time, I had a Cat on it when I checked the line later. Rain, winds, low pressure, and even lightning seem to send some Cats into a feeding frenzy.

My apologies!

It has been a whirlwind here. At work, plenty of OT trying to finish some cabinet door jobs. At home, projects, projects, and more projects. Did not even make it to computer two of 5 nights this week.

Also, working on printed copy & hope to get set up for flats & pockets in the next week & in 2 to 3 weeks the normal calendar.

Re: Lynn's Catfish Calendar 2015 - 03/01/15 08:30 PM

I shared this over on the thread "Lake Livingston Cats".

The Catfish Calendar works best on set lines as you leave them & it focuses on being there the whole day, not a given time period. The Calendar does not zero in on a specific time frame of the 24 hour days. There are pros & cons (checks & balances) as to the Calendar used for set lines & R-n-R & also bank fishing.

OK, here ya go. Here's a Prelim look. Looking at my Catfish Calendar, your best shot for BlueCats in April will be at the end of April running into May, and also the following week, so here goes ...

BC days are the days that BlueCats absolutely bite the very best.
YC days are the days that YellowCats bite the best, however BlueCats also seem to hit very good on these days too, but not as good as on the BC days.
BFT days for me is usually when I catch more ChannelCats. But then sometimes I catch a variety of other fish, including Blues, but the Blues tend to bite much lighter.
"PYC" days are in addition to the regular calendar days. These are my "Primary YellowCat" Days in accordance (in close line with a near pattern of 7/2/7/2/7/3 & repeat- the 2, 2 & 3 being their roam/feed pattern) with the pattern I found back in 1980. If they do not fall on the YC days on the standard LCC YC days, I would still target Blues on them as well. PYC days listed after the 2 monthly snips & Moon Phases.

Re: Lynn's Catfish Calendar 2015 - 06/07/15 05:18 PM

What a month, as to May, and all the rain in Texas. Hard to believe the amount of water & damage here & there. And sadly, the deaths & injuries as well.

We are super busy at the cabinet shop. This week I had to work until after 10 PM 3 nights to get jobs out. Saturday morning I had to just unwind a bit. Back in February, I built a 8' x 16' building so me & my Uncle could each have half for our fishing & camping gear. I admit, there are a few other things added to the contents. But the weather has delayed a few things due to so much water. I sure am glad I put it up on 1.5 blocks (off the ground- 8x8x16 & 4x8x16 solids), so it is 12" up for the runners & a bit more before the floor. It seems it has been a lake on one end. After the heavy downpours, the water would settle out at about 4" deep.

I am thankful on another note, as I now have my wife Elena settled into an apartment in Kiev, about 20 minutes walk from my step-daughter Helen's apartment she shares with a friend. Helen managed to get to Kiev back in August. Elena had been staying with friend's in Kharkov. However, there was talk of things to escalate there like they did in Lugansk (which the rebels now control). All of their items are still in the apartment there. Whether you wish to call it war or a conflict, it still gets people killed & displaced. So I have peace of mind knowing both are safe, which helps on my recent heart & high blood pressure issues.

We were hoping to get going back on catfishing before July, as for me & my Uncle, but looks like we will have to delay it until the Fall. My daughter Kristina & son-in-law Eric (both started fishing Limestone with me), and grandkids, bought a new huge mobile home & put it here on the corner of my sister's 10 acre spread. Then my sister offered my Uncle a chance to buy their old mobile home. He decided to go for it & is now remodeling (will take a month) it. Then of course I have been busy on our camp & fish storage building. So we have high hopes on the Fall. My Uncle had heart & high blood pressure problems right after I did. But he had to get a Triple or Quadruple ByPass. I managed to squeeze around that.

OK, enough said. Hope everyone is playing it safe out there with those higher waters. For instance, Lake Somerville is 20 feet over normal. That's a lot of extra water! Reminds of Spring 1979, constant rains & flooding. But 1980 was almost drought around Fall season, as we took a Brazos River trip from The Falls up in Marlin the end of September.

Re: Lynn's Catfish Calendar 2015 - 08/09/15 01:20 AM

My Apologies TFF Lynn's Catfish Calendar Researchers,

As I was thinking I had extended into July (at least partially), back in posting June, due to the July 4th holiday. OOPS! Guess I thought about it, but looks like I failed in that. I was hoping to post August last weekend, but got hit with a massive toothache that swoll up the right side of my face from the lower eye to beside my lips. Felt super miserable & did not do much of anything (nor wanted to) the whole weekend.

We have been way beyond busy at the cabinet company, and several have been out here & there, causing me to work way beyond what I would like to. By the time I come in after the hot day, and get on keyboard, I have not done much before Zzzzing out right there at that point.

Even the boss (owner) has not had much time for his Crappie fishing, or I would have already heard some fish stories by now.

Finally have both Wife (Elena) & Stepdaughter (Helen) in separate apartmments in Kiev (Ukraine). Of course that means I am supporting in a sense 2.5 households, and now add mucho air conditioning (electrical costs). Kiev has been hit with some 105+ heat even more higher than here locally.

And also just had a 40th High School Reunion 2 weekends ago. I have to wonder, why do we plan these things in the high heat of the summer?

OK, so what I propose is backing up to July, then present into August, and extending thru September in this round. Come the first of October, I might even have the 2016 mapped out & just maybe ... well, we shall see as maybe I can clear that hurdle & might finally have one complete, in order to get a printed year copy out ahead of schedule. That will be a first & a celebrated moment for me.

As we had a great (meaning more akin to massive) year of rain (some places way too much, along with loss of life & property), many have gone from drought to normal. Some like Lake Somerville, still have way too much water. But now it is very dry & burn bans are popping up in counties around here. So you can see, drought is only a few steps away once again for some.

If you are going to fish in these heated conditions, pack on the extra water bottles, as you never know if you might sadly conk out while out on the water & have to roast awhile. Be prepared!

In case you have not heard yet, a lot of recent publicity has been given to what is called (currently by some) a Blood Moon Tetrad of 2014-2015. I think the 4th was either the Full Moon of 9-27-15, or it may be the Full Moon of 10-27-15. There was a lunar eclipse on the 27th of September which was called the Harvest Moon in Almanacs. However, the Hunter's Moon is the one following that they sometimes called the Blood Moon. Some religious researchers put together their findings of significant events occurring at these Blood Moon Tetrads, that fall on Jewish festival or Holy days. While the science community does not delve into that matter, they did note those researchers should you wish to investigate that angle.

Anyway, Bill (one friend who has several brothers who also is a customer) told me a year or so ago, that his brother Mike lives & breathes by my Catfish Calendar. He always tries to plan trips according to it, in order to get the maximum catch. Mike emailed me later to let me know of their Independence Day Family Fishing Trip. Not sure, but I think he goes to Toledo Bend. Here was his brief comment:
"Date: Aug 17, 2015 8:02 AM
Lynn
how are yall doing? We had a good fishing trip the 4th of July. we fried 45 lbs of filets and brought home 52 lbs of filets."

All I can say is WoW!

For the Catfish Calendar Key, just back up a post.

Re: Lynn's Catfish Calendar 2015 - 11/07/15 02:50 PM

Well, we are finally into November. Times of fishing, hunting, and Thanksgiving. As you look at this month, think of the possibilities, especially during the Turkey Day Holiday period. For any of those that might be duck hunting or deer hunting, be it near a lake (or river), at (or on) the lake (or river), why not add to the enjoyment. You can fish in the midst of that. I always suggested to those duck hunting, camping out at Running Branch Marina on Lake Limestone that multi-tasking was not all that hard. It did not matter if you chose Rod-n-Reeling or Running Lines. After a morning's hunt, you could switch right into fishing, take a breather, then do the same in the evening. Of course you would have to choose which order for the evening. Hunt, then fish a few hours into the dark. Or fish just ahead of the dark.

If you are running lines, you can set them out before the hunt (your time off) begins. If you are limited to the weekend before as to setting them out, you can always hang the hooks in the saddle, or leave the leaders off completely until time of use. "Hanging them in the saddle" is my term for having the leader with the hook, attached to the main line with a swivel, and poking the hook thru the swivel. This keeps the hook inactive until needed.

Sometimes you are faced with a morning or evening of no game seen to be able to bag during your hunt. Sometimes even so, as to the whole trip. Why waste the trip, as to any meat for the freezer? Wouldn't it be great to have at least something to show proof to others that there was a positive return on your hard earned dollars, even if the hunt did not come thru as hoped or planned? Of course you would! You can have your hunt, and catfishing too!

Also, if you have your younger portion of the family with you, I am sure they will also love the extra portion of fishing to keep them from getting bored. Duck hunting really works out great paired with catfishing, since most bring their boat for hunting ducks.

Even if you are just catfishing, you will love what the Catfish Calendar has ready for you this Thanksgiving season. So here is your November 2015 Calendar. Enjoy!

As you can see the 3rd & 4th weeks are Superb for Catfishing! I can't vouch for the weather though. You will have to work around that to be safe. And dry.

And remember, there is what I call "Bleedover" before & after the designated days. In other words, there is an overlap sometimes which can be used for your benefit. For instance, if you have a ZIP day, then a BC or YC day, you could bait your lines the evening of the ZIP to reap the harvest of an early BC biting morning. The calendar merely points to the day, but does not hone in on the specific hour or hours that it keys in on. There could be one or several major biting periods for that designated LCC day. And if you have a BC or YC day followed by a ZIP, you never know, that "Bleedover" could produce a nice haul or a big one the morning of the ZIP day. That is the main reason why set lines work the best for my Catfish Calendar, because it zeroes in on the days, but not the specific hour or hours. By the lines being there with bait, as they roam for food, you don't miss out.

Re: Lynn's Catfish Calendar 2015 - 12/09/15 05:20 AM

I almost posted this on Sunday, but the Wife Skyped me just before I could, so I did not get a chance to get back to finish it. And work kidnapped me on Monday. I had a few minutes at the moment, so I decided to try again qwikly.

Wild & crazy weather this year for sure, too dry, too wet, floods, droughts, forest fires, too windy, too calm, low pressure, high pressure, sometimes rain every weekend. One Medicine woman visionary said it correctly, "Summer and Winter, be all mix up."

Regardless, you fish when you can, be it due to weather or life's other demands. So here is your December 2015 Lynn's Catfish Calendar (LCC). Always remember that the Catfish Calendar targets the full 24 hour day, to which if you only target a small portion, you may miss ourt on its potential. In this manner, set lines are the best as they fish for you 24 hours a day. If you are out on the waters rod-n-reeling, if parked in a spot for a great length of time, it will be evident for sure. The calendar seems to target the Blues, Yellows, and Gator Gars as to some timed mechanism or instinct which (for a lack of a better term) "requires" them to roam for food.

These patterns run similar to satellite photos revealing that cattle herds tend to feed in a North-South or South-North pattern. And in a similar way, dogs tend more to trace steps back & forth North-South or South-North, before being comfortable to drop their bombs.

Patterns are everywhere. You just have to study them out long enough to be able to key into them & utilize them. Be safe, stay dry & warm! Have a Wonderful Holy-Days!!!

Here's your December LCC-
