Reel Fishermen of Denton County - 06/09/12 11:22 PM

Carlos and company headed to the Martinez Ranch few weeks back.

Here is what went down.

Carlos and his Lovely lady friend went back in time and got this bluegill...

Then the reel fishing started with this huge double!!

Then this happened

Then this...

Good times.

Re: Reel Fishermen of Denton County - 06/10/12 12:16 AM

Hit a local spot today and did serious fishing. Had two patterns figured out pretty quick. There were fish in the weeds deep. And there were fish in the open water chasing bait on top and just under the surface. All fish caught from my bass hunter.

There is a bass there... This fish came from 25 feet of water and was buried in the hydrilla that deep.

Look close this fish here has no eye: ever wonder what happend to that six inch bass that hit your spinner bait and the hook was through his eye? This is him.

Big fish love big baits! 11 inch worm there

This fish was in open water chasing TINY shad.. Way thinner than the ones that hunker down in the weeds.

Locked and loaded for next time...

Well, putting corn on hooks for the ladies is serious business as is stalking the wily brim that haunt the shallows at the Martinez Ranch. So I digress my leather neck friend.

We battled the rain today and has some success. Got fish on worms and flukes. Lost two fish on big swimbaits...

A solid rain suit, must have item.

I was happy about this fish.

Carlos was even happier about this one he got!

Good times

Nice fish Dan!!!

We caught some today as well but they were all about the size of the ones Carlos caught so we didn't take any pictures. We did get dumped on with rain for about 5 minutes so I got to test out my rain suit today.

Re: Reel Fishermen of Denton County - 06/17/12 09:19 PM

Had to fly solo today as my bro had stuff to do.
Had 4 fish on my power drop shot rig. I picked up an A rig
for fish that I have been seeing schooling on shad in open water;
but of course they were not doing that today. No luck on the A rig. The thing is a beast to throw. Its a workout. It gets fouled pretty often too. I am sure I will have a good day on it sometime. It does look good in the water.

Got on some fish today. Nothing great but catching is better than fishing, Dan got a decent one on his last cast of the day.

I cranked all day, swimming it along submerged trees and timber. All of fish were cuaght shallow and holding tight ot banks or structure. Fun day for sure.

Who Gives A $hit anglers tournament series. Its only for anglers who are in search of what's called a "reverse lunker". We go and fish for the smallest 5 dink fish limit. the smallest weight wins.

Anyone can catch a DD bass or a sharelunker but it takes true skill to hook of of those reverse monsters.

Had fun today fishing with a bunch of the Denton Bass guys. Me and my buddy decided to forget about going for the big ones and we went on a search for the "reverse lunkers" and we tore it up. Here are a few from our conquests:

William aka Duckman with one of his hawgs:

Me with my huge warmouth:

A few of the bigger fish kept getting in the way of our goal of the smallest fish.

But we definitely won the "reverse lunker" contest with this guy smile

Great few days fishing of with the gang.

Much respect to Carlos, Tim, Larry, Sir David, William "The Duck Man", and of course the Rodfather himself FFM.

Fishing was tough but we all got some. No lunkers, but some "Reverse Lunkers" made their way into our plastic boats.

Hope y'all like pics.

No I haven't. But I have thrown a little cricket hopper lure that imitates a stranded grasshopper on top of the water but didn't have any takers. Not even any gills.

But There's alot of stud I want to try but haven't yet. So far small crank baits and weightless worms have been doing the trick.

I guess no one is fishing this week. I can't because one of the "new college students" ran over my truck and few weeks back and it is in the shop gettin' some body work done.

I am going Sunday morning and hit some of a favorite drop offs and ledges.

It's gona be only 85 degrees so I am going to spend the whole day and take my lunch.

the creek chanel had a good drop off with structure and shallow water on the side.niiiceanytime you have a wind blown bank like that it should hold bass because of the curent . but that day was tough and im not sure the bass population is there for the size i fish for. im sure there are plenty of unders there but thats not what i fish for . but really like that lake.

Re: Reel Fishermen of Denton County - 09/06/12 11:03 PM

I know of a few big fish caught there so I am going to keep on fishing it. I caught that one big one a few weeks ago and she was right on the spot I picked out on the North side.

Both of the points on the south side are prime spots but I haven't caught a decent fish there. You have shallow water within a few tail wags from deep water. Heck that one point has a drainage ditch running into it on the damn side.

Re: Reel Fishermen of Denton County - 09/06/12 11:15 PM

That fish David caught today was sitting on a small tree branch that got stuck in a shallow cove. I think the water was 4' deep. We had went over it once earler in the morning but it missed the spinnerbait leaving a big swirl.

I think it was about an hour later when we went back and David got his chance to run over it with a rattle trap type bait. She slammed it this time and put up a pretty good fight before he got her in the boat.

The lake we fished is normaly pretty clear but today you could only see a bait down about 6"-8". I think the fish could find that bait because of the all the noise it makes. The spinnerbait only put out shock waves and I hardly got bit at all. David caught several with that rattle trap.

Gentlemen (and Dan),

It almost my favorite time of the year and I'm not talking about Christmas, I'm talking abut Rattle-trap time..Nothing beats the excitement of a crankbait bite, (well except for a topwater explosion bite)

Rattle trap throwing time is almost here. Better start working out those arms for the chunk and wind part of the season...MY FAVORITE

Hit my local spot for about 45 minutes. Got 3 dinks, 3 bluegills, and this one decent bass all on weightless senkos. I fished the senko a little bit faster than I normally do, kinda like I fish a fluke or slash bait and they inhaled it on each strike.

Got this 15 incher. Not a monster but biggest of the group i caught.

Carlos and I did some work today. All fish were caught on "power shot" rigs. Variety of plastics were working. Worms, Crawfish, Creature baits, and Carlos had one on a fluke "Power shotted" The sun was high today so the fish were in the middle of the weeds.

When we get cloud cover, they are on the edges of the weeds and even off the weedline, but still relating to the weeds.

Nothing huge at all. But we had fun!

Yeah, So I was supposed to be running "wedding errands" all day which meant I was going to meet Dan at the lake. LOL.

I fished most of the day with my shirt off as usual and when I was at home walking around shirtless, my fiance totally called me out and said "how did you get sunburned from running errands??" and then she said "dont even try to lie cause your face just gave you away" LOL.....

I got all the wedding errands done after we fished so my tail was saved anyways and I cooked dinner and cleaned the house before she even got home from work so needless to say I am a man of many trades.....

And yes, Dan and I are about due for a fat nasty bassy...

Carlos...throwing a crankbait? Shocking!

I had a few on the "power shot" and a drop shot, but nothing big.

Re: Reel Fishermen of Denton County - 09/15/12 04:58 AM

CrankbaitCarlosFishing.

I haven't got serious with a crankbait for some time now. I did use it some last summer and did pretty good with them.

I am going Sunday to this spot to where I can use one but it will have to be deeper than 15 feet. Now I haven't done that in a long long time. Being that deep, you will have to work it like a worm or jig. Let it dig down then float back up and do it again.

I think it takes just as much skill as fishing a worm does.
Posted By: Carlos Martinez

Re: Reel Fishermen of Denton County - 09/15/12 05:17 PM

Yeah. Deep cranking has never been my strength. Like you said it takes lots of patience and perfect timing for it to run run correctly that deep.

My favorite and strength is shallow water cranking and square bill cranking.
Posted By: Carlos Martinez

Re: Reel Fishermen of Denton County - 09/15/12 05:18 PM

Cranking that deep I would almost throw a big swimbait instead of a deep diving crank. But you won't get that digging effect that sometimes triggers the strike.

Where are you hooking the fish at?

In the jaw, the skin inside the mouth or the throat?

Two of them bottom lip. And once on that tounge thingy they have.
Posted By: fish fear me

Re: Reel Fishermen of Denton County - 09/20/12 04:46 AM

Most of the fish I catch they are hooked in the throat. They must swallow the bait and the hook snags the throat when I set it on the way out. Sometimes I catch the skin inside their mouths, rarely does the hook make it back to the jaw.

This is just my observation since I learned how to stitch.

Re: Reel Fishermen of Denton County - 09/20/12 04:52 AM

Today I was crawin' a worm over some little rocks (or sticks) and I felt a small tap. I reeled in the extra line and swept the rod. That fish make three runs and didn't come up until it was next to the boat. It took drag all three runs.

I expected it to be bigger than it was.

I was really trying to focus on the bite.

That is the key to all of it.

I have set the hook on a hunch before and caught a BIG one.

They are tricky like that.

+100! I just can't say that my past BIG ones are on the same level as FFM's BIG ones. Not yet at least, but I will get there. Looks like Daddy has been missing out in this thread. lol. Nice work, Carlos! Stitching with a black worm as well. FFM style... lol I've been focusing on the bite lately as well and when I suspect a bite, I simply apply slight tension to the line like Mr. Murphy recommended and the fish will usually get a firmer hold of the bait or swallow it then take off at a decent pace. I just make sure to be ready to free the spool/open the bail ASAP at the first sign of movement. From there, you should be able to set the hook either pretty quickly or wait it out if you're skin hooking a soft plastic. I've had A LOT of bites like this lately. My problem is I keep going back to wacky rigging with the O rings and completely exposed hooks while using a baitcaster because I can't seem to get it right. While the tension tactic works the same, they tend to feel the hook pretty quickly and expel the bait if you don't react within the small window of time with the proper hook setting action/power. I don't have this issue with the spinning reel though as I normally don't use the tension trick while wacky rigging with it. Guess it's a comfort level issue. On another note, I think I may switch back to all fluoro like FFM was stating the day we met as I am paranoid that my hi vis line may be scaring away line-shy fish, especially those smart lunkers, when I cast beyond my target as the line must sink and travel through the location first. Even with the marker trick or using low vis braid, it just doesn't make me feel as comfortable as I did with fluoro. While the hi vis helps ALOT in seeing those subtle bites, I have come to rely on feeling the bites more anyway along with instinct from recent experiences. Will be giving it a shot tomorrow morning. Wish me luck, gents.

I use flourcarbon on most of applications (epecially crankbaits and finesse fishing) unless fishing heavy cover or topwater.

Flouro's sensitivty coupled with a sensitive rod tip is the way to go when using the stitching technique. I use 17lb bass pro XPS flouro for most of my finesse fishing.

The reel i caught those three on was spooled with 17lb bass pro XPS flouro

Tough bite today. I started by drop shotting with only two nibbles and no solid bites. Switched to a 1/8oz blue and chrome rattle trap and got two on back to back casts. After that nothing.

I didn't bust out the measuring tape but they were around 15-16inches.

Yeah, the pond fluctuates about 4-6 ft normally (the past 10 years at least). It's only about a 1acre pond but it's a deep bowl (approx 20 ft when pond is full, we've ha it since the 40's and it's never gone dry). The grass is the only cover in there for now.

Wish I could get out with y'all tomorrow, but I've missed enough work as it is. Grab some pics while y'all are out there would ya.

Went back out to rope pond tonight. Caught the smallest Frog fish I've ever gotten tonight around 23:00. I had one that smashed my Bps Kermy big time, missed the first hook set, then she nailed it again but she got off about half way back. I'm not sure how I like the double hooks in these frogs, seems harder for them to get.

Re: Reel Fishermen of Denton County - 10/04/12 11:17 PM

Went out for about 3 hours today. The bite was real slow and i couldnt buy a bite. I fished crankbaits, spinnerbaits, and even the weightless senko wasnt getting any hits. So I went to FFM's bag of tricks and tied on some stitching gear. I started getting bluegills bumps which was better than what I was getting before.

I finally nailed a good one but she broke my heart as she was about 10 feet from the bank and she came up ouit of the water and spit it at me and swam off to the depths. I know she was a good one because I saw the size of her head when she spit it.

Not too long after that I lost another one, not sure of the size as it came off before I got a look at her. I am super pissed by now. Again I finally get on another one and i connect good one this one. The pics are below. I am really beginning to get a knack for this stitching thing. I am nowhere near "good" at it but eachg time I use the technique I get a little better at it.

Re: Reel Fishermen of Denton County - 10/05/12 11:56 AM

FFM you thought about using those baitholder hooks like Murphy did?

I think that might be a good idea. I would fear when you do get that DD she might straighten out a light wire hook.

That last 7 you caught jacked that hook up pretty bad if I recall.

I might have to try that, just see how it works.

I was fishing some fallen timber with a black spinnerbait and I felt a hit, So I set the hook (real hard this time Dan lol) and I watched my bait fly towards me and land at the bank. All I could think of was Damn! I lost him. So I start to reel in the slack, only to notice the line start swimming away. Re: Reel Fishermen of Denton County - 10/13/12 10:31 PM

Thank you, gentlemen... Definitely still has quality fish, RSD. They constantly breach the surface all around me with a cocky, taunting appeal. lol

@Dan, junebug senko... I can't stay away from the soft plastics... I think it's time to admit I have a problem... Na, seriously though, I had a lot of action on the junebug, where I had absolutely no action the time before where I tried every color BUT junebug. It was also a different time of day, but who knows. I never have luck with spinnerbaits. Perhaps I need to take notes from you and DPJ in order to boost my confidence in them at least. Jerkbait eh? Nice! Now I will admit that I am a complete novice in that category, but would love to learn as I'm sure the bites are electrifying! Crappie spinners? Interesting... I must assume that you're using smaller spinnerbaits. What colors if you don't mind me asking.
Posted By: Dan90210 ☮

Re: Reel Fishermen of Denton County - 10/13/12 11:20 PM

White skirts Silver blades. They are smaller spinnerbaits.

Spinnerbaits and grass are like peas and carrots. Fish them around and in grass. Rip them free when they get stuck just like you would do a rattle trap. Changing the rotation of the blade is key. That draws stikes like banging a crankbait off a stump.

You can burn them just under the surface, let the blade break the surface from time to time and when it does pause the bait for just a second. Looks like a shad on top flicking like they do when they are chased.

Short arm single colorado blades are great as drop baits. Reel them to a target and stop, let them helicopter down.

Slow rolling big colorados in deep water in winter can get your arm torn off.

Dark colors at night. As Kolton can attest to.

Other than plastics a spinnerbait is my go to lure.

Funny story from today. The spot Kolton and I fished today was occupied by a cottonmouth when we showed up. Kolton hit him with his rod to scare him off.

I kept my eyes on the spot where he had been hanging out. At one point Kolton goes "Dude holy [censored]!" And points to my feet. I think I jumped 8 feet in one leap. He laughed.

I told him if he does that again I am pushing him in. And I mean it.

Try any wooly bugger type pattern right now. Haven't been skunked yet. They are really pushing up on the shallows and banks. Caught 1 in maybe 6 inches of water.

Fly fishing huh? Isn't that for trout? I saw your pic of that fatty. Maybe I need to break out my old DVD of "A River Runs Through It" and get onto some fly fishing.

Welcome to TFF, and to the best thread on here (expect FFMs, cause his has the pic of your huge bass now ha ha)

So I went out to my Dad's ranch yesterday. Got out there around 5pm and started fishing. I wasnt sure how it was gonna go cause the water levels in the ponds were so low but i gave it a shot. I started with a bourbon colored Pop-R and when the top water bite died I switched to a blurple colored ( blue/purple) senko rigged weightless. Here's the results. No dinks caught. All solid fish in about a 2 hour span.

To make a long story short, my wife calls me while at work on Saturday afternoon and says, "lets go to the ranch and have family time" I was really suprised cause she is not a outdoors type gal, but i was all for some ranch time. Anyways, heres a picture of our so called "family time". Her sitting in the truck looking at facebook on her phone, my stepson (not pictured) at the house playing on his Playstation 3, and me fishing. Is this "family time" for anyone else.

Make a couple deep holes and some ditches for them to sit in. Go back into the thickets and cut down a few smaller trees, tie them down running over the ditch.

I landed 5 keepers in about 45 minutes. All fish were caught on rattle traps. The crankbait bite was on. I caught 5 and missed 2 more. Not bad for 45 minutes of fishing. Anyways, here are the pictures. I love this time of year. Its crankbait time!!!!

Had a "headshaker" get off. It was a big fish. I got her to "color" so I knew it was a bass. She shook her head twice hard, and came off.

Then she looked stunned and looked at the bait as it slowley floated up, like she wanted to hit it again, then she thought better of it...One flick of the tail and she was gone.

Just another fish story, but a true one.

Posted By: K. Loomis

Re: Reel Fishermen of Denton County - 01/16/13 07:45 AM

I was meaning to cast up the bank and let the jig fall into the water, one of my casts got away from me and got hung in some brush. We were back in the creek. ( Thankfully Timmha has a sense of humor. But it wouldn't have been a far swim if he had booted me out lol)

FFM, did you ever get a new TM or Prop? I still have one you can have.

No, I can't justify buying a $200 TM when the one I have now works.

I want to push Dano around but not for $200.

It been a tough January for me. First few fishing trips got blanked. Finally got on some fish today. Senko with the smallest bullet weight I could find did the trick. Only fished for about an hour bit was able to break into the 2013 fishing scorecard.

Not an ideal trip but did manage to catch a few. This one was a lot fatter than he looked. I thought it was a female full of eggs but it was just really healthy. Both came from the lake with no fish in it.

[img:left][/img]

This one wasn't much but fought like a tiger.

That made the trip bearable. I had to dive for a rod and reel, busted a seat, fell on the floor and smashed my head on the battery, and bent the handle on my trolling motor. It still works if anyone wants a 30lb Minn Kota Endura C2. Free.

It's all yours Carlos. It still works fine but the handle is bent which won't allow it to telescope out which is a must for me when fishing alone. Let me know when you can come pick it up and I will PM you my address. Both my wife and I are traveling for work this week after Tuesday but I will be home around 10 tonight and 7 tomorrow. After that it will be the middle of next week before I am in town again.

I was really surprised at the water clarity. It didn't have its usual anti-freeze green color. All of the creek chanels were as clear as any fresh water I have fished. The two the the left of the cut through to the back were crystal clear and full. I didn't realize before how deep they are as I assumed they were the usual 2 foot depth. I could see the bottom at a little less than 5 foot of water.

OTB- The model is a Bass Tender 10.2 (10 feet 2 inches). It fits in the bed of my truck easily and I dont have a full size truck. I have a 2007 Dodge Dakota. As for the 2nd part of the question. Can you lift it alone? I can do it but its a struggle. With two people, no problems at all.

The dead lake is alive!? Nice work OTB.

Boats looking good Carlos. We have to take it out and do some night fishing on the "illegal" lake thats north of rope pond.

That thing has some TOADS in it, and being illegal to fish and all, it does not see alot of pressure.

Greetings gentlemen. Even tho I haven't joined the tube club yet, I figured I wouldn't be assassinated if I posted here as well. I heard Echo Lake was full of bass as well, but I wouldn't recommend the area to anyone who isn't familiar with some sort of "hood" exposure lol. Doubt anyone would bother you personally but your vehicle may get broken into or you may become a victim of circumstances if certain "transactions" go wrong. Plus there is just something that bothers me about coming in contact with water that's contaminated enough to require a possession ban.

I was planning to get there around 9:30 or so to give the water a little time to warm up but will probably still be there by 2:00 fishing the North banks. I hope to see the new rig.

Thats what I was thinking. There is for sure no fish on the northern banks of that place!! haha!!

just busting your nuts OTB. When the reeds get nice and thick there on the north bank side they go crazy for a weightless fluke. OOPS!!

Actually Carlos, that whole mud puddle goes nuts for a weightless fluke. That's one of my go to baits out there. Ooopps. I gave away one of your tricks too, LOL! I think it will be pretty close to lights out so I was planning on trying a few new baits out. If I only catch 20 instead of 25 and learn something new it is worth it.

I know that my suggestion may shock some of you however as a general rule, shallow, protected coves with dingy water on the north side of the lake generally warm up the quickest. The exceptions are of course going to be determined by bottom density.

Went out for a quick session today and landed this one. 16-17inches on a baby bass rattle trap. He really whacked it too. The bites are gettin more and more aggressive. It's on!!!

Re: Reel Fishermen of Denton County - 03/15/13 02:20 PM

I'm going to fight the 101 fever and hit the water tomorrow. My plan is to start off with a topwater before the wind kicks up then switch to a spinnerbait/buzz bait as the sun comes up. If that doesn't produce then it will be a jig/fluke day. Maybe a little later in the day I will throw a trap. What am I missing?
Posted By: Carlos Martinez

Re: Reel Fishermen of Denton County - 03/15/13 03:18 PM

I'd add a chatterbait somewhere in that lineup. I know for a fact that has been producing lately.

And throw in a Monster or RedBull (or be like Dan and do 4-locos) and your set.

I picked up a chatter bait the other day to try. sside from the already insane amount of tackle I have I don't know why I didn't give em a try sooner. Fish it like a spinnerbait, right? More like a jig? Both?

Haha. I only drink RedBull when there is vodka in it and even then I leave out the Red Bull. Never tried 4 Loco but I'm not a fan of energy drinks. I'm an old fashioned coffee guy.

I will be dusting off my chatterbait tonight if I'm still alive. Hope to see you on the dead pool tomorrow, Carlos.

No wrong way to fish a chatterbait really. Just vary it up on its presentation and see what they like. The simple chunk and wined usually works pretty successfully though.

I hit rope pond today. The wind was bad, bad. Never had the Hunter in waves that big. Got into some fun wave riding.

Started slow with just one dink. Then I recalled what Carlos said..."Sexy shad, its always sexy shad time" Then I got a few.

Hit Target Creek on the way home and got this dude on a 6inch Castaic Catch 22 Swimbait.

Ended up with about 10 fish. Nothing huge. I tangled with a monster twice. She was 8# no chit! But she won.

Water was 63 at target creek and 60 at rope pond. Bass on beds all over the place. Good times.

This was the first fish of the day-

3 casts later, fish on-

I also caught the first black lipped fish I have ever seen-

I had 9 total for the day. Not lights out but a much better outing than my last. Things are picking up for sure. The jig and a chatter bait did all the catching.

FFM,
If the wind permits spend some time hitting the brushy cover on both sides before you get to the back cut through. I caught a few decent ones there 2 trips ago but couldn't last time because of the wind. The back creek channel (back half) was loaded up pretty good. Good luck and leave a few for the rest of us wannabes. Haha.

The cut through to the back pond, not the creek. You know what I mean, sheesh.

Carlos and I hit a brand new spot today. Hard to access, even harder to get the boat down there. We spent the first 3 hours wasting our time on the West bank.

As soon as we moved to the east side it picked up. We had several decent bass. I lost a BIG one. All fish came on jigs with craw trailers.

I caught this deal... Flathead cat. Fought as hard as it is ugly.

Now that we have learned the place some. We will be back. Like any water, takes some time to figure out. I have high expectations of this place..we will get some good ones from here!

reverse lunker titles only apply to bass, large mouth bass. also based on the lifelessness of the pictured bluegill I would suggest this photo is staged!! upon further review that lure is not even tired to anything...

how dare you Sir attempt to fraudulently claim the title of reverse lunker King

Haha. The bluegill was alive and well. And was caught on that lure but foul hooked. I didn't know that it only applied to LMB my friend. The line was cut off because when I reeled in that guy I decided that it was time to change baits. Then I took the pic.

The hook is actually through its right eye and buried in its little fishy brains.

But as I was gettng my camera for a pic some idiot asks if he can have it to take home. So I quickly unhooked it and put it back.

Caught 5 in about 1hr of fishing.

I'm targeting the late spawners at my local community lake. There are still a few females sitting on beds right now and I know one of them is 7-8 for sure. The last two days Ive thrown everything in my box at her. She wont take anything. She's not spooked at all though. She doest leave the bed when I drag something across it, she just doesnt hit anything. The thing that has gotten her attention is a BIG A$$ 7 inch swimbait I swam across her bed. She chased it but never actually attacked it. I even paused it right in the middle of her bed. Int helast two days I've probably pitched to her over 500 times. I think today I might give her a day off. And re-try tomorrow after work
I'm going to get her. You can believe that.

Carlos, any gills around there yet? I know how you can get that bass!

Yeah, that is true if your morbidly overweight. There's not enough storage for spam burgers and fat sauce on our boats so it makes it difficult for such people. The fishing barge is more suitable.

Are you directing this at me?
If not directed to me Do you think this something that you should say on a public forum. Whats this say about You?
You sir need to clarify this Hated statement.
Posted By: K. Loomis

Re: Reel Fishermen of Denton County - 04/29/13 06:09 AM

Gonna ignore the idea of yours that you have the privelage to tell me what I "need" to do.

Did you get your feelings hurt? I wasnt just directing the so called "hated satement" at you DBE. Just elaborating from all of your great wisdom that you previously posted. If ya don't fit in the boat, it's probably hard to catch any fish from them. The fishing bardge is perfect for those sort of people. Maybe a big v bottom Lund would be better, with rod holders and coolers to put your limits of "big" fish into?

If you happen to fit into the catagory of people that I was originally talking about then that sucks to be you I guess. It doesn't really say much about myself for making the so called "hated statement". Only that I can accept the fact that "them little boats" aren't for the large bodied fellows. And I don't see why any part of this shouldn't be on a public forum, the key word is public. So that the larger bodied public will know not to buy "them little boats" because you can't catch no fish in dem anyway. So I pointed out a few other options of fishing, heck I even pointed out some reasons for those option! Just here to help the GP!

This is just the tip of the spear my friend. The hate keeps me warm...

Good practice setting the hook at least.

If your doing it right those dinks should come at least 3 feet out of the water on the hookset!

The fish were definitely there. When te bass bite slowed. My fishfindr was off the charts with crappie. So we targeted some of the slabs. We foun multiple places loaded with crappie and baitfish. So we tied on the cranks and went to work.

Anybody got a catfish spot that they don't mind sharing with me? My in-law's are coming to town for a week during Memorial Day. FIL is a disabled vet and wanted to attend the Carry the Load event with me on the 26th. Anyway, I am looking for a spot that we could take out the buster and catch a few nice table fish, maybe have a corrs light or 2 in the process.

I know there are some in the dead pool but I wouldn't eat anything from that place.

If you want to bank fish think of the old dam on LL.
I can tell you of one pond in Denton but it would be bank fishing. You could fish the old dam on LL with a bass buster on calm days. Blue and channels on LL.
And yes Carlos suggestion of the catfish section will serve you well just say if your banking or going out in a bass buster.

RSD-

Man that sounds nice. Last time I was in Florida I did a All Inlclusive Disney Resort trip. Man, that was awesome!!! I plan to do it again when the family (kids) are old enough to really enjoy it.

Ifyou havent doen it yet with your girls, I would HIGHLY recomend it. And Disney has Private stocked lakes on resort property. you can book a guide through the Disney and have them put you on some fish. I didnt do it, but I will the next time.

Re: Reel Fishermen of Denton County - 07/06/13 05:57 PM

bogarts sucks. they fixed the hole in the fence so i cant back the buster down into the water anymore. but it went a lot easier this time (FFM can understand that statement).

had a few bites on a jig, no takers. had a big bite and pull on a swimbait in 15 Fow, but he missed the hook. the only fish that came into our boat were two 15" striper off of a 5XD sexy shad. although it was nice to get out and test the new TM and battery. i dont plan to go back there for awhile.

so when are we having this "wonder bread" contest?

As you saw seems one fell or went for a swim? He could not get out then his buddy tried to save him and also drowned.

The family said they were both strong swimmers, maybe drinking? I for one, NEVER drink on the water!

Either way, goes to show water aint not joke.

What lb test was it? I have not been much. Fished a tiny creek in Euless and had 7 fish in a row, about 14 inches and there was BIG one in there trying to eat the fish I was reeling in.

I was going to catch her, but... My reel broke and it was the only one I had with me. True story

After losing that lunker yesterday I had to go back. Did not catch a big one but I am happy with how I fished. Focused, prepared and I did not miss one bite. I am relaunching my pursuit of a DD

Since FFM can't do it I will have to!

Well Carlos is a new daddy so he's been out if commission.

Got out with On The Bank last week, pics

And a reverse lunker!!

This is a new place we are calling "the fairway" it's deep and narrow. We had 18 fish on crankbaits thrown at the bank. Drops off from the bank to 20+ feet really fast the fish were sittin right on that break

Good times!!

Got to do a little fishing today with my daughter. We got 15 total and she actually caught the biggest fish but she wanted me to hold it for the picture. Nothing huge but we caught some fish and it was a fun day. She didn't want to leave and kept saying "just one more cast".

And my fishing buddy!!!

That was good times! We caught a bunch of fish and graphed water up to 60ft. Dan even had a Shrek sighting. I'm convinced that there are good fish there and we will catch them. Even if Dan has to spend another 40 minutes making a legit Carolina rig

That c-rig is so official though. Not taking it off till spring.

I have 40 mins invested in it already

Re: Reel Fishermen of Denton County - 02/13/14 06:31 PM

Here are a few pics from my last outing at the mud puddle. it was three weeks ago when the weather was last warmer. 4 fish total. Nothing big as you can see but some solid pre-front action for this time of year. Two of them had that weird black lip deal. There are two pics of the one fish with black spot on the tail. Posted in no particular order. All caught on a YUM Vibra King tube in Pumpkin seed flake pitched into heavy cover. Really heavy cover. Lol.....

It was great meeting you the other day, RSD. I enjoyed the company and had a good time. Next time I hope that I don't get out-fished as badly. My 4 were welcomed but I would have rather your 11. Even the mutant shad!

My best RSD impression!

We got into a lot of fish today. All males shallow and not super aggressive. Shakey heads and a few on traps.

We backed out deeper to look for fat momma bass but nada.

Also had some striped fish.

It's about to get real good guys!!
