Got a chance to stay at a condo just below the Capono Bay Fishing Pier. It is locate on Seashell Shores . It has its own boat launch and docks. I was wondering where would be a good place to fish for reds and specs in that area? Capone Bay is close by. What is the best bait and or lures to use, where to go and best time?

Sorry you did not get an answer people seem to want to keep all the fishng spots secret as there only a couple of fish left in the sea...I cannot tell you specifically about boat fishing because I have never boatd the area. I am a greenhorm on this issue and last week I asked a few questions to try and get started wade fishing and the best resource I found was a guide named captain Rex, I eventually met up with him in rockport and bought his resource "Wadefishing Rockport" and for the price it was definitely worth it just for the information He has another called gps spots or reefs of copano bay that would seem a lot better than waiting for someone to give you significant information for you to enjoy your trip. I am so hooked on learning to fish the coast I will be down there this thurs. to Sunday fishing as well and staying in one of the miss kittys fishing houses in copno bay as well...Good luck and try it out.

P.S This is not a plug for cpt. Rex as I have no affiliation to him just know that it was very frustrating to try and learn where to fish a new area and his guide hads a lot of spots for me to try hoe it has the same for you if you choose to purchase it if you have any other ? please feel free to P.M me....

Thanks Mitch, it was my pleasure to meet you and talk some fishin' last week.

Copano Bay will have light winds this Friday morning which will open up the mid bay reefs Friday morning and over this weekend, so there will be a lot of options in this back bay, which is one of the largest back bays on the Texas Gulf Coast and TP&W has NOT allowed shrimping back there since 2003 and they just stopped allowing oystering in Copano Bay until further notice a few weeks ago because a sample revealed oysters were getting smaller. This bann may last a few years.

That's GREAT news for our recreational anglers.

Winter rains have Copano Bay's back lakes and estuary's filled with brackish SaltH2O from Bayside to 1/2 way to Sinton off FM 188, for the first time since this Texas drought started 5 years ago.

Most reefs by the Bayside estuarys are NOT on any publsihed map except the Copano Bay Secret Reefs web site, some are as small as a baseball field, or smaller - yet very productive when fishing a school of 100 - 200 trout.

The first shrimp migration from the Bayside, Turtle Pen and Port Bay estuary's starts in May thru the 1st week of June.

Hit the right reef and your culling or limiting out before 9 am if your cruising to your spot before sunrise.

I also service my customers after the sale via emails, telephonically or personally here in Rockport, that's part of the deal .. to help you "Go Catching" , not just go fishing !

No problem I enjoyed the lesson as well. Tomorrow I will be sitting down and planning my fishing areas with the tide chart and will share with you as you say "fishing is fun but catching is more fun".

Thanks heef, it's on its way.

mitch14013 will be eating well tonight, he sent me a pic of some nice reds he caught today - redfish can be mighty tasty over the grill and mesquite ...

Love to see guys catch the salt water bug, I know I did 25 years ago. I grew up in N. Texas and lived on a lake fishing since I was 3 but it was when I moved to FL that's when I started exploring Salt Water and I have never turned back from it since. I now fish the Texas Coast since I moved back 10 years ago and I fish on average 1-2 weekends a month. Sorry I didn't see this post earlier.

Thanks grinder my son had a blast pulling in a 3 lb sheepshead from same location reds were caught.. my wife also pulled in a couple of hard heads all they like to do is catch not really fish so it was a blast ad that location really got muddy during a south wind but that is why all the sheepshead and hard heads were in that area but I learned an awful lot about wind and tide this weekend....thanks what an education....be back in a week

I have not...The grass has not seemed that thick plus to me the heads where the line connects is really where I seem to get most of my grass. Plus sometimes when it is hung that quick jerky motion used to free it triggers strikes I believe anyway...
