I will check out the Mustang I did see them at Cabela's last night but they didn't have prices on any of them and there was no employees to be found besides the ones up front pushing credit card sign ups.

The better vests are all probably equal at the end of the day. This is the first one I have owned. What I can tell you is that I stepped on the scale without it and there was no change in weight when I put it on and re-weighed. This scale measures in 1/2 pound increments. There is a manual inflate tube that you can also blow into in the event of a malfunction. It also has a flourescent lime green colored shoulder area that should be spotted easily should anyone need to find me in the water. If I never have to tell the story on how well it works, that's good by me smile

Happy Hunting

Wait...you weighed yourself wearing a PDF??

No, I weighed myself with a PFD.

What is a PDF?

Yes, just curious if it would register any noticeable difference. COuldn't find a weight on the package it came with and was trying to offer the OP an idea as it relates to weight. To me, it feels no different than wearing a dove vest with a handful of shells in the pockets. I'll offer more after I've actually chunked baits with it on for a while.

Mustang HIT. Has to be submerged to inflate.

As far as having to wear all the time or not it goes by what is on the manufacturers label although not all game Wardens or Law Enforcement seem to know that. Just keep a regular vest somewhere handy in the boat. That might prevent the "it has to be worn" discussion.

I have owned 3 different types of auto inflate PFD's and the Mustan HIT is by far the most comfortable..also the most expensive...but if purchased new it doesn't have to be rearmed for 5 years unless of course you try it out in the water...The HIT means it doesn't discharge until it is in a minimum of 4 inches of water...so eliminates any likely accidents in the locker or during a rain.
