I was working in New Branfules on 4/22, or Earth Day, to some. I had a moment to get out and see if I could dupe a couple Comal River Black bass, or at least eyeball them back for a few minutes, just so they know, that I know, they know. It was just set up to be after leaving a couple broken down rods and gear from the outing the evening before. Strange twist of events, I found a bunch of large talipia in a grass bed that was in 3-7 ft of water. The rest I never thought would ever happen when this little side trip started. I ended up catching four in about an hour and a halves time-span on my 5wt. these guys are a heck of a lot of fun to catch when you get em to open their mouths. The bonus too, being it Earth Day and all, is that all fish landed were released directly to my cutting board, due to it being illegal to release them back into the Comal river once caught. These fish are a tasty unwanted invasive species, that live in some of the cleanest fresh water found on earth. Happy Earth Week, and remember to do your part. vidjeafootage

size 2 3x long wooly buggers, green, brown, black, color didn;t matter so much.Had to use a heavy beadhead to punch through the grass and get to the fish. Was fishing 3.4lb tippet, due to the uber-clear water, so lost a couple too.

Sounds like good fun, and good eating! Thanks for sharing your fly setup, too. Our local HOA stocks these in all the ponds and lakes, and they are a blast to catch on a 3wt.

Having caught and eaten Tilapia that size a long time ago you bring back memories of a good fighter that tastes equally as good. Nice picture.

Great accomplishment and good report. I'm glad to know some luck can be had with a fishing implement other than a cast net.
