Where did they all go ? can we really blame water levels fluctuating?

Ray Hubbard Main Lake used to have a ton of hydrilla all gone
Lavon used to have huge areas with duck weed that was awesome for frog fishing...yes the Lavon abuve Hubbard
Ray Bob hydrilla gone
Fork, Birch used to be a hydrilla paridise.....all or mostly gone from what I've heard
Cypress & Sandlin Hydrilla paradise
Richland Chambers same as Cypress and Sandlin

I am sure there are more lakes with weeds MIA can some one that actually really possesses the knowledge comment?

On Lake Austin TPWD cut a bunch of grass carp loose and it wiped out virtually all the hydrilla and any other plant life.

TPWD is not the lone culprit when it comes to eradicating aquatic vegetation. Many lakes are governed by water districts (North TX, Dallas etc..) and they will kill the grass if they feel it poses a hazard to obtaining water from the lake. Many lakes ( ex:Cypress Springs) have property owners that feel hydrilla limits their usage of the lake and they kill it off. Power Plant lakes have utility companies that control the water and feel that aquatic vegetation can impeded their ability to move water from the lake into their cooling towers etc. Weather and low water also take a toll on the grass and that's just a fact of a major drought.

manhunter is right. I started a thread about this a couple months ago thinking it was all TPW. TPW has plenty of blame to it's name but not near all of it. Alot of times it does have to do with the water authorities believing the grass is a hazzard. From a fishermans point of view I think they kill more than necessary. From info I got on lakes like cypress the grass was killed because pleasure boaters petitioned to get it killed. They need to manage the grass instead of getting rid of it. That way everyone is satisfied.

FOLA- Friends of Lake Austin. Basically all the wakeboarders complaining saying the hydrilla will drown them if they fall in it.

Back in the day even Tawakoni and Cedar Creek had aquatic vegetation. Chemicals of all kinds have been dumped into our lakes.

Lots of the ponds I fish are just now starting to show grass again. I'm assuming the cold winter has caused it to bloom later than usual.
