The last two weekends I have been on the Colorado River, and I have never seen it as diverse as it is currently. Two weeks previously (13 April), I fished the Colorado near Bastrop, and the fishing was fine. Saturday (19 April), I went to Colorado Bend State Park. Their fishery is almost gone. They have removed the fishing board; there was no White Bass Run this year; the river is dirty brown; there are very few fish in the river along the park boundary. Spicewood Springs is still nice for the ultralight fly fishers.
It was really sad to say the least.

That's what drought does... Bastrop is far enough downstream to weather the effects but even that section is suffering. Predictions are for another dry summer. What rain we have received has been timely and good for growing grass but much more is needed to replenish the ground water and fill bigger lakes and rivers. Conserve water now and in all ways be kind to Mother Nature.

I grew up fishing the Colorado inbetween goldthwait and brownwood. I can still fish it two mile of private water but never do after they built lake ivie it died. On the contrary I do catch a lot of big bass sounded Ivie. There was a historical marker at the place that I Fish used to be a log mill there and the old spreader damn still exist and on really good years huge stripers would come up all the way out of Buck Cannon and be stopped by the dam the first good pool below that dam was some of the best striper fishing I've ever experienced. Maybe one day we will get a ton of rain and they will let water out of Ivie and I will fish her again but until then rest in peace.
