in the 4 years I have been fly fishing in Texas I have only seen 4 cotton mouths ( 3 in one day when they were mating) and I fish some very remote places. most snakes I will leave alone but I killed this guy because it is a spot I fish with friends a lot in the summer and we have dogs with us and just didn't want to have a problem in the future. I didn't see him until it was almost to late. Looked down and saw that white mouth pointed right at me!



That's how close I was! One more step was probably trip to the hospital.

I've had a few close calls with rattle snakes while hunting and I can tell you that they will make me scream like a girl. Nothing worse than looking down and seeing a rattle snake 6 inches from your leg. I havnt had any close calls with a cotton mouth yet luckily, to me a snake is a snake and they should all die.. I hate them with a passion. I'm sure my face and the noises that come out of my mouth when I walk up on a snake would win funniest home videos if anyone ever caught me on camera.
