I was planning a two-day trip to Lake Athens in the near future and wondered if anyone could recommend a place in Athens to stay overnight. Many thanks.

There's a Best Western and Holiday Inn Express right on 31. Pretty close to the lake.

Thanks guys for the advice. I guess we'll try another lake since Athens has no fish in it. LOL.

What, the marina restaurant is worth a wasted day of fishing at Athens. You should have fished the lake before it came famous.

Holiday Inn Express...Eat at the Athens Cafe, on 31 between downtown and brookshires on north side of road, in the shopping center where blockbuster used to be, home cooking, good vegtables. No fish though

You should have fished the lake before it came famous. Yep, now between the intense pressure and the huge fish kill they had last weekend, there are only 8 bass left in the lake and they are all on the bottom side of the slot so no point in going.

Slade, Yamamoto's place in Athens is awesome. http://www.innatbkranch.com/ They also have a place in Mineola, a big house and a 2 bedroom small cabin. 2 lakes there to fish, 20 minutes form Fork. Z522 Ranger's recomendation is spot on too, you can stay down in Beaver's Bend below the dam and rent as nice a house as you want, catch rainbows and browns in the river, fish the lake for smallies. Taken from a prior post. This looks very promising..

Americas Best Value Inn has boat friendly rooms. Don't know about the others.
