I've been after them for two days and can't find anything but males. Tried shallow in places where I killed them last year and caught two males on jigs. Fished another hour or so in that area and nothing. Tried up north and the water temp is right but not alot of water and the water that is there is chocolate milk. I've heard slips have been producing but I can't get them to eat. Wished I had better news... Maybe someone else has them figured out.

I've been doing..OK at my spot. Nothing 'spectacular' but enough to have dinner. Been catching 3 or 4 keepers out of about 15 fish, so a lot of dinks. Maybe this week the water temp will be better and they'll come in in more numbers. The lake is down a lot from last year, but there are some coming in...we just need a LOT more! The only thing that is working for me is my little ghost minnows. I picked up some wool roving yesterday a tied a few up. I'll give them a try on Tue and see how they do...gonna combine my ghost minnow pattern with some wool and see if I can get an even better producing jig.

Fly tier (yeah, I can fly fish...but the fish don't like frothy water!)

Been out a couple times and very disappointing. Caught 2 keeper fish in two trips. Fished a lot of good spots with water temp right and nada. Worst spring fishing for crappie I've seen on Belton ever. Have several friends who crappie fish there also and there luck is no better. I'm headed east Tues lookin for a thump.

last year at this time, APR 1 2013 /belton 6 feet low.
80 degree air temp, spawn in full swing, lots of crappie being caught at leona and owl creek.
shad spawn also in full swing, lots of action along banks abt a half hour before daybreak/
last year little cool fronts kept coming in all the way into mid april and it was hit and miss, not sure the mild temp fluctuations affect them as much as the pressure changes/ watch the direction of the wind, it will tell you when the front is done, NES it starts out of the north, then comes out of the east, then finally south again. occasionally will then have a westerly component, but not often.
April 14, th . 15th. and 20th were all good days on belton also.

COMING SOON! .. THE STICKLE HOOK " the stay level sickle hook". sits level in the water with all knots.! Provides better hook sets and more natural jigging motion. No more adjusting the knot, gluing , or tying loop knots that cause the hook point to tangle in the loop, or worse knick the line.. The jighook that will make all others obsolete !

last year at this time it was 6 feet low, right now its around 10 feet low. I dont think folks are going to find too much action in the usual places. Lots of old timber lines all over the lake, that they can fall back to and spawn on. Belton has been taking a beating with the drought. Hopefully better times in the future. pray for rain!!!Theres some deeper timber lines on the left before you go into owl creek that can hold fish sometimes, might be worth trying. when the water is 10 feet low, you have to rethink everything .
