Nightcrawlers attract too many other varieties of fish. If cats were the only fish species in the lake, then 'crawlers would be ok. The problem is that a perch or carp will usually find a worm before a catfish will.

I'll always take fresh shad over any kind of bait fishing for blues, but I've talked to some hard core bank fisherman at my home lake and they say earthworms have caught some of their biggest blues to date.

This time of year. For Channel-Cats. Nightcrawlers. Works great! Shallow, next to rocks; or brush. Even better if you get a rise on the river. Or, area of lake- your fishing. You mangage some Perch. Fishing with them. Cut them up. Also. C-Cats love'm both. God-Bless.

I would even use frozen shad before relying solely on worms.

Running trotlines used to use worms probably 90 percent of the time, never had a problem catching fish. However now that I only R&R or throw a couple jugs I mostly use dip/punch bait, perch, and shad in that order. Still no problems catching fish..

Shad for blues. Night crawlers are lethal on channels and I have also found the smaller blues when in the river systems like them alot too.
