Hey guys, im going to be relocating to florida for 3 years to complete my medical training in emergency medicine. Having been a medical student the last 4 years i have not had much extra money for a boat. But i have a 14' jon boat and an old johnson motor. I will be trying to sell this and upgrade a little bit. This is kinda a random question, but i really would like to have an older bass boat or a decked out aluminum boat. anywhere from '96 on up with a decent sized motor...what sources have you guys found to be the most reliable in finding boats around the state? I live in Austin but would drive to pick up the right boat. I have looked at boattrader and craigslist. The problem with CL is obviously you have no idea what the service history is and things can be shady. If you guys have a shop that sells used boats, know of anyone with something, or an online resource and could point me in the right direction i would sure appreciate it. Looking to spend 2500 - 3000 so i know its gonna be hard.

Get a little more specific on your parameters. I.E. minimum engine size, length, etc. $3k is doable

Avoid any boats with carpet. The salt drys on them and they get crusty and nasty.

Flats Fox,Hells Bay (very expensive) but awsome. Wait till ya get to Florida to upgrade that way you save on taxes you will only have to pay if you come back to Texas. I really liked the Flats Fox laid out like a bass boat with no carpet. Hells Bay Waterman is an awsome boat. Like the Capt says no carpet.
