Is 30lb braid over doin it on a battle 4000 for redfish? I've never used braid but decided i gotta get out of the comfort zone & try some wade fishin with artificial lures.

I like the 2000 sized battle with 20lb braided line for plastic lures.

I don't think so I have 30lb on my 3000. That's what was recommended since its the same size as 8lb. I run 20 on most but my battle as 30lb suffix. I like it because I use that set up for fishing lures and during the flounder run with no break offs.

30lb is good. 4000 size will handle most species including small shark when loaded up with braid.

Would a medium action rod be better than a extra fast rod for throwing lures? My friend let me borrow his extra fast rod but it feels really stiff...

For lighter stuff, and free lining shrimp, I like a Medium / Moderate rod, kind of whippy.

When getting 1/2 oz or bigger, I like a medium / fast rod, heading towards an ounce then MH works too.

ok it's a 7ft extra fast rod. My buddy said its actually the rod that comes with the reel in a combo sale. So i went for a test drive & threw a 1/2oz spoon in the pool... kinda stiff.
Maybe its just me... but im really confused on this action/power topic of rods... so a whippy action would be a Medium maderate fast???
Thanks again for the help

Check out ftu they have a sale today and tomorrow. The ftu bayrunner is a good all around rod. I like 7'6 but they have 7'0 run about 49. Good balance to cast and set the hook. I have my battle on a 7'6 custom made its a little stiff at the back end but the tip is just right to get it out. I use it for trout and flounder, but I have reeled in everything else on it. But check on the bayrunner I think they are 10% off right now..
