Thanks, JL, that's a place to start to see if it is still hot in the area around the lake. I have fished there (Sugar) 4-5 times w Charlie Haralson and other than the high winds it was fantastic! The 10 XD's must be taking a fair share now and soon when it is around 105 degrees that place is bananas.

As for the safety aspect of entering Mexico for the purpose of BASS FISHING we never had any problems.....But, no need to risk life and limb over Dr. Lunkerstein if there has been ANY bad news. Usually FLT is pretty good about posting issues and I haven't seen anything lately. Unless I have missed?

Ranger1, now that's the kind of answer that gives me butterflies! As for myself I have a lot of time to fish pretty much any days w around 48 hrs notice......During the week would be the best, but weekends fishable for sure, and yep you said it Sugar Lake bass will test your gear! If you could get REALLY lucky and have light, summer winds you will have all of your things mailed straight to the hacienda from your old home and your new ex wife!

I will roll even if we have to do 15 mph all the way down the dirt rd to the TECATE entrance sign.

I have guided there 4 days thus far in the past 2 weeks. Lake is very high. look great.Had one terrible half day, ( 2 four pounders) and 3 fair days 9-14 fish. Have not had an 8 pound bite yet, but the rest are solid fish. Be there, 7 of next 10 days. Will try to remember to post a report when i return. I stay at camp mirador by the dam. really clean hotel with a pool table even i can knock a few balls in on!!

Nothing wrong with either option. Call both Mr. Law and Jimmy B to get their thoughts.......I would go with either in a New York minute. bannana2

Anyway, have heard nothing but good things about your occupational decisions and wouldn't mind treating a loyal employee to a day on Sugar with you provided you have open days?

How long does it take to get to Sugar from Zapata.
I will be in Zapata for 10 days the end of April and Sugar might be a good one day side trip. Is it safe to pull your boat to the Lake ?

It is 61 miles from our shop to Sugar.. Takes about an hour and a half to get there depending on whether the Mexican officials want to check you out good when you cross.. Getting back is tougher being inspected by the American customs folks.. Not always.. But sometimes.. Depending on time of day traffic can be stacked up some at the bridges coming back to Texas..

Take your passport.. And make SURE there are no guns or even empty shellcasings in your truck or boat..

It's not safe if you don't know what your doing. Go with a guide.

I wouldn't go at any rate, although I have gone there many times in the past. Fish Falcon. Just as good. Or bad.
