I just hope that the opinions of guides are totally ignored. I have nothing against guides, but you cannot have an open unbiased view when you have a financial interest in the lake. Whatever TP&W proposes to do should be in the interest of ALL the fishermen and women of the state. I don't think it should be managed as a trophy lake, but I do think a strict limit on trophy fish needs to be inacted. Something along the lines of what Tennessee does. What does tennesse do?

my thought is that the minimum size should be 15" and limit of 15 catfish per day. Maybe limit to one over 30". statewide.

My opinion is leave the 12" limit but drop the possession to 15. 30" max, one per day.

I've heard that the 30" mark has a good chance of pushing through...but heard dropping the limit to 15 isn't likely. I would be in favor of dropping the limit to 15 on just bout everything. I actually heard from TPW that fighting for space in the Outdoor Annual has a lot to do w/ which regs change. So, adopting an existing reg is easier to pass (ie: Texoma Reg)

I am Far from a biologist but here is my idea of a perfect world.
Daily bag limit of 15 fish per day, channels, blues, and flats combined. No more than 5 flats.
Minimum size limit of channels and blues 15". Minimum size on flats 21".
Implement a tag system simular to redfish at the coast. When you purchase your liscens you get 1 tag for a catfish of any species over 30". If you catch a catfish over 30" and want to keep it you must tag it. After cleaning the fish you can return the tag to TPWD and purchase another tag for $5. Each person is allowed only 2 tags per year.
This allows each person to harvest a big fish or 2 if they feel the need to but protects from the rediculous over harvesting. It also helps TPWD keep track of how many and how big of fish are being harvested. Lastly, the $5 for the additional tag goes to funds for restocking blue catfish.

Great Idea, I dont know why anyone keeps the big ones anyway.the thrill is catching them. I understand wanting meat for the table, but you dont kill all the adult chickens then wonder why there arent any eggs.

That 15" limit is pushing my upper limit that I like to keep for the table. The 12 to 14 inchers are my favorite. You trophy guys have nothing to fear about me keeping a big catfish, I don't fish for them and wouldn't if I had the chance. I used to go up to Pickwick and fish for big blues and caught a boat load. But never kept a single one. It was fun, but too far for an old fat guy to travel today.

Forget any idea of a $5 stamp for ANY fishing. The legislature will take it at their first opportunity. I supported the $5 freshwater fisheries tag, but will never support another "self tax" again. I will fight as hard and dirty as I can to prevent that BS happening again.

What I am proposing is the 1st tag or stamp would be included with your freshwater fishing licenses, no extra charge. If you choose to keep and tag a fish over 30", and then return that tag to TPWD for a 2nd tag, the second tag will cost you $5.
If you choose to not keep any fish over 30" or even just 1 fish over 30" for the entire year, there is no additional cost for you.

Guys I get and respect the suggestions that have been made about the fish limits. Being a channel cat angler, my concern about this is that some of our texas lakes with a VERY HEALTHY population of channel cats would not benefit from this change. We all know that there are some lakes (especially in east texas) that need to keep the channel cat limit at 25 imo.
