FYI.... I still have not received my DRAPS for my trip in March. I know others who are still waiting also. The state claims to be making changes to the paperwork.

Devils River Access Permit. It's needed if you plan on camping within the Natural areas.

What's the idea behind the DRAPS?

To limit the number of paddlers on the river.

No matter where you camp you have to have a drap. Like Josh said, it's a devils river access permit to limit the number of people on the river per day to 12.

I'll be there March 29th-31st

$$$$$ does = motivation. So, if you don't camp then no "Access Permit" is required right?

What good are these permits going to do for the devils?

Hypothetically, If a land owner along the river wants to float the river, they must also obtain an "Access Permit" right?

Per the TPWD:

http://www.tpwd.state.tx.us/state-parks/devils-river/river-trips

"A Devils River State Natural Area Access Permit (DRSNAAP) is required for all trips on the Devils River which access Devils River State Natural Area units. The cost of a DRSNAAP is $10. Read more information about how to obtain a DRSNAAP and how to prepare for a trip on the Devils River."

The bolding and underline are mine. I read this as if you were launching and taking out from private property, you would not need it. If you stay, launch or take out at a SNA, you do. Best to call the TPWD for verification however.

Sooo can't you just go do it? Is a game warden going to patrol the river? Or is it to use public parks? Personally I'd just do it and pay the rediculous fine if I was caught. Seems overboard to charge for such a remote river. Everything I read says you can do a multi day trip and see no one.

Do they expect it to turn into the Guadalupe and fill up with topless college dropouts (sounds good)?

Game Wardens have free range gentlemen as they should IMO.
Arent laws suppose to protect the common interest & not limit the common interest?
If this is just to limit the # of folks on that stretch. It is wrong IMO.

If money is needed then couldn't the state put a drop box and charge at put in for patrol & concervation sake. <-Just an example not THE solution...
TOADYANKER, Just cause you don't see a warden doesn't mean he hasnt been watching ya ninja
I bet there are land owners doing quit a bit more watching than whats healthy. I would go as far to say that I bet there are land owners trolling & lurking reading this right now. hide2 GOTCHA!!!

care to post a few words?

hmmm For fun sake anyone know how ridiculous the fine would be? popcorn

I don't plan on breaking the law. LoL. I agree that if its to busy to regulate it, especially if its getting damaged due to traffic. I have been checked several times by GW over the years with no problems. GW's are always really cool and laid back but I'm sure he would come if land owner called.

But, if I had a group of friends going and I hadn't gotten a response back, I'd definetly go without the DRAP.
