We have like a twenty acre lake on our place. Went out to the boat dock and took a dip net and scooped it in the water and got a full load of bream. This is also happening up and down the banks as well. The bass and crappie are healthy and not seeing them in shallows. Can anyone tell me why this is happening.

Water temp and Bar pressure will drive them to the bottom of a pond,pool,river or lake.

Not sure I fully understand the question. But the bass spend most of the time in deep water this time of year. You won't find them as much in the shallow as you would in Spring and Fall.

I have never heard of anyone putting a dip net in at the dock and scooping up a full load of bream. By your post it sounds like your lake as lots of forage and healthy bass. Seems like nothing to worry about, but rather something to celebrate.

"Sunfish," describes the entire family of Centrarchids because many (especially bluegill, redear, and green sunfish, the three most common)like to "sun," along shorelines and around docks, especially when the water is cold, but the wind is still and the sun is high in the sky.

Meanwhile the water is cold enough to keep bass and crappie (both "sunfish" as well) in deeper waters. Plus they tend to not like direct sunlight and won't be likely to be seen, even if in the area. They are well marked for camouflage and will hide in the shadows, waiting for a hapless sunfish to wander too close....
