What does everyone who fished Whitney 4 to 5 years ago when it was good , like sand bass every where , birds feeding on shad , crappie in the barges , lots of stripper guides ect. think it will take for it to get back to what it used to be ? I went out last weekend for the 2nd time this month , and not one bite all day ! I did notice the same thing though, there are shad every where we went by the thousands. Maybe the fish are just plain old full of bait fish , and not hungry ?

I can remember when there were a lot of stripper guides, now where are they ? Unemployed ! What happened to all you had to do was get on the lake, look for all the birds or boats and the sand bass were schooling.Seems the only half way good fishing is down around the island by the dam.All the water from Katy bridge north is just dead. But at the same time it is ate up with bait fish.

I don't know why the fishing isn't as was 3 years ago and not nearly as good as it was 10 or 12 years ago...

In the early 2000's anyone could catch a ton of fish... and 3 years ago, the bass fishing was great even though the water was 16 feet low.. we caught lots of fish with the water down...

And, I still get isolated reports of folks catching fish... but, I notice that they are concentrated in specific locations and those locations change frequently...

I have recently talked to several people who have caught fish in the north end of the lake... up in the Nolan and up around Steele Creek and White Bluff... and a few around Cedar Creek...

But, the fishing is different... a lot tougher. But, I have seen INDIVIDUALS come in at various tournaments with big bags of fish.. some with bags of 5 fish over 5 pounds...

I think the fish are still there, but the feeding patterns have changed and that the locations have changed on Whitney... I also think that fewer folks are fishing now a days and that it is a "numbers game." The more folks that are on the lake, the more likely it is that some of them are going to find the fish.

We went today... only caught one.. last week we went one day and caught 3... I know from my own experience that we caught more fish when we were fishing 3 to 4 times a week and we were able to stay on them... going once a week and only fishing for 4 or 5 hours, it is hard to locate the fish.

Agree 100per cent.Bass are still there, just not as good as it was say 5 years ago.I was mainly talking about just going out with the wife or a friend and just fishing say for anything like crappie or sand bass, or anything on live bait. There was a time when we could take the grand-kids out on the pontoon with minnows and go to 3 or 4 spots and catch fish.It seems the only way now is to just be in a spot were only the guides or someone who fish the lake like you said a lot no of.I remember when the lake was at it's lowest around 16 ft. you could catch anything with little effort.Right after it came up in less than 2 weeks it went to bad , and just seems to have never came back.Remember when all the sand bass would school off the sand bar and the open water across from Juniper Cove ? Every morning and afternoon you would see 10 to 15 boats and a lot of birds feeding.Even the water all the way to the bridge from the island was just full of them. Now you go out on the weekend and you see 1 or 2 boats at the most. Sad just sad.

There are numerous factors as to why the bite is tough on Whitney and vice versa. I just enjoy being on the water and catching is a bonus.
