Well running across lake on Sunday at 5500 rpms and all the sudden motor shuts down, no alarms no nothing. Get into shop on Monday and they test compression and no compression on #2 and #4.. #4 spark plug had little pieces of metal on it but all others looked fine.. Am I in for a new power head and how much will this cost me? What should I ask about to make sure I don't get raked over the coals?

I would say it is a dead player with no compression and metal on a plug. Figure out how much you want to spend and start looking for a good rebuilder. The good guys are gonna be around $3500 and up depending on what all is wrong with it.

Its going to be hard to fix for 4k with all of the fuel-oil system needing serviced. That can run 12 to 1800.00 by its self. I would think closer to 6k.

You know the block is hurt and in need of re-sleeve or boring. You guys keep talking about the powerhead but this motor has a lot of expensive accessories that will need attention. I am doing an XR6 right now that is going to be in the 3-3500.00 range. It got #3&#4 piston and cylinder boring both .015 over. Its a carb motor. If you do`nt fix what caused the failure your asking for trouble. Good Luck

it is not only the block parts that need to be checked on these motors you need to find out what caused it to lose cylinders it could be fuel pumps filters injectors or a lot of other things to make it fail.

I think it is odd that it was 2 and 4 failing.
