All these posts about drop shots has me intrigued and I saw all the elites catch fish at st. Claire. School me on anything and everything from hook size, type and size of weight, length of hook from weight, knots used and rod and reel combos.

Go to you tube and search drop shot techniques. There are some nice video's on there that will answer most of your questions.

To many variables. Sometimes spinning gear and 6lb line, sometimes a flipping stick and 65lb braid.

The drop shot can be a finesse or a power finesse bait.

Ok guys. For starters tackle depends on water clarity and structure as well as the size of bass you are targeting.
Clear water 7ft M or ML spinning rod 6-10lb Floro leader length depends on depth and weather ur fishing vertical or casting somewhere between 6-18inches should work really shallow shorter deeper longer. Use the reeling hook set for casting and a straight up hook set if fishing vertical drag should be loose but should allow hook penetration
Most Texas lakes 7ftM spinning rod 15-20lb braid with 10-15lb Floro leader I use 5-7ft of leader tie with uni to uni knot. Use a size 1-2/0 owner EWG hook Texas rig it.
Large drop shots using 7-10inch baits use 7ft-7'3"MH bait caster 15-20floro tie a swivel in 2ft above ur worm to prevent line twist if your dragging the drop shot. Of you are just pitching it to stumps dot worry about swivel use 4/0-5/0 EWG hook that is made for heavier line. Set hook on this set up like c-rig feel fish reel tight and set 4:00o clock or so u want hook to be in side of mouth.

Just bought a drop shot rod from a fellow TFFer and went out fishing this past weekend. Using a REVO S spinning reel with 8 pound fluoro 1/0 Gama hooks and a dream shot bait. Built up my confidence this weekend. No monsters. Still wondering how I am going to do it if I lean into a monster with my setup.

Don't complicate things here. I know guys that kill them on bait casters and guys with spinning gear..use what comfortable and start fishing you'll grow from there... Catch fish first then revise as needed...

I had used a 6'10" ML/XF rod with 8lb flouro, however, I am now experimenting w/ 12lb braid tied to a swivel with 8lb flouro on the business end.

start with youtube videos, and then you can get a better idea of how to start off simple.
