Two years ago my son and fished the Mad Dog tournament. About 9:00 my son caught a fish that measured exactly 24 inches. The fish was hooked in the gullet and was struggling. We went directly to the marine where weigh-in was to happen where we re-measured the fish and confirmed it was exactly 24 inches. the tournament director would not let us weight the fish early but offered to keep it in the minnow vat until weigh-in.

At weight-in, my son retreived the fish from the minnow vat and commented on how cold it was. When presented for weigh-in, the fish was now just short of 24 inches. We were DQed and this would have been to only over caught in the tournament (8.73 lbs). It cost us the win. I informed the Mad Dog Tournament Board and they indicated that the practice of weighing in overs early would be adopted.

I guess it takes a dead fish over DQed fisherman to get things changed.

Yes, it was the Mad Dog Moore Tournament. They had not had any overs or many weighed in from most recent years. They are reevaluating their rules to allow this next year. This is primarily the Hella Shriners out of Garland area, and they are learning.
