I bought a turkey hunting seat that is about 4 inches high and folds flat at Academy. Thought it would work great in the yak so I could elevate and not sit in water all day. Well, that was stupid! About 3 hours in to my trip I shifted my weight and the turkey seat folded up on one side and before I knew what was happening I was swimming in Denton Creek. Luckily my yak did not turtle and I did not lose any gear! This was only my 4th or 5th trip in the yak and I am still learning (in this case the hard way).
Does anyone have any ideas (pics would be great) on what best to use to try and make an Acsend DT10 seat like that of the Jackson kayaks without having to buy a Jackson kayak? What do you use to keep from sitting in a puddle of water all day? Thanks!

I saw some seats at anglers pro tackle off of rufe snow the other day. Don't know if they would work or not. Just a heads up.

My friend's son has a 10' Ascend and his has a framed seat like a Jackson or Native. It is actually pretty comfortable and keeps you up off of the floor. I bought a Larry Chair (travel chair) recently and installed it on my Commander, and I really like it. But it does raise the center of gravity quite a bit. I'm now looking at building a seat for my Commander. I will probably weld it together out of 3/4" square tubing. It will sit slightly lower than the Larry chair and have a higher back rest, too.

Anything that raises the seat much more than 2 inches on that particular kayak will cause little room for error for most folks. Nothing wrong with your kayak, its just physics.

Lots of options, the cheapest being a self inflating pad. Helps with comfort and gets you high enough to stay semi dry except when in chop. Easy and quick to deflat when you need more stability.

Get some type of waterproof dry pants and stay low.

Get pontoons and put a rocking chair in kayak.

I now understand the physics of seat height in a kayak. However, it sure was nice to be sitting up a little! I could paddle better and cast better. If I stick with kayaking I will get one with the higher seat in the spring. Wanted to start off cheap (inexpensive) to see if I liked it or not...kept the bass boat though just in case smile

You may have felt more comfortable with the higher seat but definitely isn't better for paddling. Those seats force pour technique.

Santa Cruz is releasing the higher position seat soon. My understanding there will be a demo kayak at the GTG.

If you have scupper holes in your seat area, plug the holes with foam golf balls. It keeps my butt dry.

Looks good. I need to try a raptor at the gtg. Do you know if you can retrofit that seat on one of those presently on sale at fun n sun?

I've been a soggy bottom boy for over 20 years now. I wouldn't think I was fishing if my arse wasn't wet...

I went up to Denton for the first time this week and put in at Trophy lake park , was pretty stagnate and gar infested from there out to the lake, where's the best place to fish it when the water is low. This was only my second time out in the new yak but i'm already hooked.

I have a surf to summit seat and the pad underneath it is about 2" thick. It might keep your butt elevated enough to stay out of the water.

I go up the creek toward hwy 377 and flip the brush and usually catch a few each trip. It is gar infested, I caught 3 of them before falling out of the yake and leaving. 2 on a yellow magic and the other on a brush hog (couldn't believe it). I use the creek more to get comfortable in the yak, like you, I am still new. I am also a little hesitant to hit the main lake so since Denton Creek is close to the house I go there.
