I fished yesterday morning, first time in a few weeks, all my spots had changed no doubt. On my first cast I chunked spinner bait at some stick ups, then in my second cast to the same spot there wasn't any water !!!.

On a serious note, I understand they are going to drop it another 10 feet or so to work on the dam/add rocks or something to the dam. I'm not even sure which ramps will be in the water.

Anybody got the straight skinny on how low they are going to pull it down too and what they are doing.

I bet there will be some serious stump bumpin gong on too. Maybe enough I will bring my boat back to Houston and head over to Fayette Co every now and then this winter.

Thanks Billy

There is no plan by the Corp. to lower Rayburn. Any release will be at minimum. I emailed them and asked! It is amazing how easy it is to get the truth by just asking.

I haven't heard anything about dropping the lake. Supposedly anything past 14' the generators don't work so I doubt it goes below that. Part of why it got down so low last time was because they dropped it to put in a pump station for the hatchery, then the drought took the rest. I don't know what level the intake for that pump is at but its above 14' so I wouldn't think they would let it down below that.

There's some common sense involved as to why the water is so low.

1. Lack of rain
2. It's the middle of summer in SE Texas. Lots of water evaporates.
3. It's peak season for electricity consumption. Just like other lakes, that lake isn't there for us fishermen. It's there to serve a purpose. When the need arises for electricity they will release more water to fulfill the demand for power.

They are not dropping if you go across the damn around 2:30 - 3:00 around the main time for generation thats the only time you will see water coming out. This is normal for this lake people stop stirring [censored] up.

It's only a little over 6 feet low. Prett typical for this time of the year.

...and I heard that some guys went diving by the dam and saw catfish so big that they could eat a man!

Really? No. Really.
