I'm looking for a baitcasting reel for my jig rod.. I want one that is a slower retrieve.. 5.0:1 to 5.8:1 range (slower the better cause I always fish too fast). I'm looking for one between $100 and $150.
Any advice on which brand our model I should get? Thanks and tight lines!

Except for football jigs, most jig bites are going to come from in and heavy around cover. When the fish are BIG, if you don't turn their head and gain control quickly, they'll run you into the thick stuff and either pull off or break your line. A low gear ratio reel is not the ticket in this situation. Learn how to slow down, rather than relying on the reel to do it for you. Plus, lots of us pitch jigs to wood, etc. The faster the reel, the more pitches you get. I jig fish with a 7:9.1

I suggest getting a high speed reel, fish the jig with your rod not your reel. If your flipping a Quantum Accurist is $100. For dragging look at the revo sx

I hear ya on the fishing too fast part cause I do that too. Although if your gonna be jigging in lots of cover your probably not gonna have an easy time with getting them out with that slow of a reel. I would say for throwing jigs you'll want a high speed like a 7 to 1 or something like that so after you hook up on a fish you can get it out of cover fast, and to get any slack line you have up quick. You'll just have to make yourself slow down haha. I have a Abu Revo SX that I use for jigs and I really like it. I think they run about $160. I hope I've helped, sorry for the long post haha.

The Daiwa Tatula 100 SH or the Tatula Type R will be excellent jig reels.
