What is the best time of year and landing/boat to catch big yft out of the gulf? I've heard and seen about 200+llbers on relatively short trips. Having fished San Diego multi day range trips I want to see what it's all about here. Any advise greatly appreciated. Thanks, Chris

completely different from the SD thing. In fact, the YFT are actually a completely different sub-species here. 200# yft's are rare on this side of the gulf. there are certain times of the year that 150+ lb. tunas can be found with some consistency in the northern gulf near Venice, La & the trips are comparatively short. The avg fish off Tx are 50-70#, & are typically caught over or past the continental shelf, which lies roughly 70-90 miles off every Tx. port, making the avg party boat "tuna trip" between 36-80 hrs in duration
oh yeah, welcome neighbor!

Very cool! Thank you for the info! I'll look into landings in Venice area and go from there! Much appreciated.
