I'm going to buy a set off waders and would like to know what you guys recommend. Either rubber with boots or neoprene with my choice of footwear.
Ill add link of what I'm looking at.

I prefer non-insulated with boots. Rubber is too heavy and neoprene is uncomfortable. If it's cool you can always throw some underoos on!

After looking at your link those Hodgemans look great!

I agree with GoldSpoonr.
I also would buy it 9or similar) from Academy so that you can exchange it for damage in a year.

Why not breathable waders?

BREATHABLES !
They are the most versatile.
Load up on thermals in the cold.
Strip down to nothing when it warms...

Neoprene gets real hot if you have to hike, or the weather turns sunny, and you are trapped.

Nylon/PVC gets slimy inside, and then really cold when your clothes go moist, and they will. (Yeeech)

The ONLY reason to fish with a fly rod in Texas
is to throw a POPPER, casting any other type fly just means you're doing something.

Ok you guys have convinced me. I really like the idea of the breathable. Just need to save a little extra dough.

Do you guys recommend rubber boots or just any boots. I still have my boots from the military, but not sure if they would be suitable for this application. I have my desert boots and my gortex boots.

You'll have to add about two shoe sizes as your pretty much stuck w neoprene boots w breathables.

Slightly loose boots are warm boots in really cold weather.

As long as your learning, do you know about felt on slippery rocks ? It works like magic,
You can get good cheap felt / canvas boots most anywhere, but its getting banned a bit cause felt transfers invasive algae and plants , snails etc....

BUT if you're staying local, there's not much of an ethical dilemma.

it the travelers need to get something other than felt. Read up, its easy enough to learn about.

Ive read about the felt issue, so i kind of ruled those out already. Thats why im trying to figure out what would be my best option.

The waders would be used for wading out into the lake, until I get around to fishing in a river sometime.

Then any boots will work.

If and when you get to wading below the Denison Dam, hunting those stripers after the next epic post hurricane flood, you'll appreciate felt.

Never let your breathable's booties touch the ground, don't ever walk around with them bare, and you'll add to the life of your new waders.
