I happen to know the Kistler family very well, in fact Mr. Kistler was my junior varsity football coach. My question is... How good are their rods? Just got a very generous payment for an odd job for an older man and would really like to get a new rod. Dont know if kistler is a REALLY good rod, or if i should look somewhere else. Price range is around 100 to 150.

Ask the Kistlers if that have any of the Carbon Steel All Around rods. Very good multi purpose rod at a very fair price.

They are not listed on the web but they may be able to get you one.

I believe the Carbon Steels are being discontinued. They are a great rod for the price. I have two MH MultiPurpose ones that I will part with. Only been used once. Let me know.

Send Trey Kistler an email and tell him Duck Hawkins told you to get in touch with him and to "hook you up"! He has some rods Gary Loomis helped him with that are between $145-$225, I think. But he will treat you right. I think he is back from Japan now. Good Luck, Dude.

all my kistler rods have performed very well. I am least satisfied with the argon rods however these are no longer being produced. If I were to upgrade my sticks at this time they all would be kistler products.

Over the past couple of years I have gradually gone to Kistler rods, all Mags except one Helium. I love them. And if you know Trey you know what a fine guy he is, I have had the chance to visit with him several times when I went by the shop.

As to the Carbon Steels, I was told they are the same blank as the Mags, but with lower cost components. I have on Carbon Steel with micro guides I got from a tournament, don't use it, but it is a nice rod.
