My 10 year old Homelite finally died and I need a new one. What brand have you used and would recommend? Probably need 2 stroke, light weight and easy to start.

Congrats on having the Homelite so long, I haven't had the same experience with a couple of their products.

I haven't bought it yet but I am planning on getting the Stihl BG56-CE, have several other Stihl products and couldn't be happier. I currently have an electric plug in blower which is nice but limited on how far I can go.

Good luck.

Thanks for the replies. I talked to my neighbors and several had Echo machines and were pleased with them. One guy has had his for almost 7 years and still starts on the second or third pull. He even let me clear off his driveway.
So I went to HD and picked one up this evening. Hope mine will last more than a few years.

Echo will treat you right, and their new ones come with a 5-year warranty. Only thing I would suggested is getting it from an outdoor power equipment dealer. They will usually be a little easier to deal with when you need service down the road if you actually bought the unit from them.

But of the new ones now, the 5-year Echo warranty sets them head and shoulders above the others. I've got a Stihl BG85C that's not wanting to work anymore and I'm going to go pick up an Echo in the next few weeks.

I've got an Echo SRM-225 weedeater that's almost 2 years old and it's been fantastic.

I have an Echo that has lasted 10 years. It's probably a little weaker than when it was new, but gets used 3 or 4 times a week year round.

Well worth the money!

2 things:

1. Go to Echo's website and register it to start the warranty.

2. Run it a few weeks and take it to a service shop and have the carb tuned up. All they do when they build them is get the carb set to run.

I asked my local small engine repair guy and he said to get an Echo so we don't see so much of each other. I got an Echo string trimmer and the Echo blower. Love them both.

Stihl SH-86, it blows and sucks. Great for shredding leaves in the late fall early spring. Rest of the year it makes for an awesome blower after cutting/edging the lawn.

I have been running my Stihl for several years, no issues. DO NOT buy it at Home Depot or Lowes, their products are private labeled junk, go to a lawn equipment store if you want actual Stihl, Echo, or Husqvarna equipment.

Ed's Lawn Equipment in Addition is a good shop.

Echo products sold at Home Depot come from Echo, they are covered by a 5 year warranty from ECHO.
