I know there have been a hundred posts on what rod to throw these behemoths on, but I was wondering if anyone has thrown them on a Deckett 7'11" MH Crankin stick yet. Its a great rod for 6XDs and the sort, but I'm not sure I want to invest in a few $10+ crankbaits if my Duckett cant handle them. (Broke college kid = cant afford a new rod at the moment)

Thanks for any feedback guys!

Yes it works great with the right reel. I can de-spool my reel
With it and it handles it great.

LOOK at the Weight range on that rod.......... It is no where near the 1.96 oz that a 10xd is.......

Not anywhere close to the right rod for that bait.

I have been using the Skeet Reese Magnum Crankbait rod that is specifically made with the deepest diving crankbaits in mind. I also use 3.8 gear ratio reels spooled 20lb(5-6lb mono equiv). I have both a left and right hand reel setup for traiding off. I fish this alot on Falcon and has done awsome for me.

Just Don't cry when the rod snaps and it WILL.

The MH 6XD rods are not Built for 10XDs or SKT Magnums... All the Manufactures will tell you that straight up.

I tried it using 12 lb Florocarbon line with a 6.4 reel. 5 or 6 casts told me that is not the best rod. Switched to my old castaway launcher with a slower retrieve reel and it worked much better.

Well, they didn't develop a specific rod for that bait when they did all the testing with it.

Geez man, I didn't mean to offend you. I do appreciate your input, because I did not know that it could or would potentially break my rod, which is why I asked the question. Now I know not to try it though.

And for future reference when commenting on a topic, try not to make it sound like the OP (me in this case) is a complete idiot and just posted the dumbest question of all time. No one made you comment on this post, so in the future when you decide to comment, try to be a little more polite. Thanks

Most of the Testing was Done with a Swimbait Rod.

The new CastAway Skeleton SKX XDD (Extreme Deep Diver) was built and designed for the BIG Crankbaits. I have been using one and it works like a dream. I had tried some of the other 7'11 and 7' 10" rods and they worked relatively ok but like the other posts said above you run the risk of snapping the rod if it gets "overloaded".

I was actually commenting to the guys that were telling you a MH was the right rod...... Not to you the OP.

Yes, I get aggrevated when I see someone Recomending, what is grossly the wrong rod, then being the first to complain about Breakage. Using a 10XD on a MH rod will guarantee breakage from the overload.

At 1.96 oz the 10XD is twice the rated lure weight for any MH rod. The SKT Magnum weighs in at 3oz and is pushing way past what most Heavy rods are rated for.

There are some 10XD rods on the market and a good substitute is a good swimbait rod with a parabolic bend.

Okay, sorry about the confusion. I thought it was directed towards me.

Any rods that you would recommend?
