I'm wanting to get into surf fishing in Galveston. Been offshore and fishing in the bay but do not have a boat anymore. Im heading down on July 16th to try some surf fishing for a few days and need some help on some locations. Going to try to wade fish in the mornings with a pooping cork and live shrimp, and just surf fish for the rest of the day. Any help would be great on some areas i should try. Thanks.

Don't get any on ya. Never used a pooping cork. Try the surf off east beach. I've caught reds, trout and spanish mackeral ther.

Try the west end, the beach is easily accessed. One important thing about surf fishing is you have to be willing to move. If you see flocks of birds diving into the water a mile away, consider moving there. This is especially true when fishing for trout.

Good to know that about the alcohol. It would just be my wife and I so wouldn't be throwing a party. Just going to relax and have a good time. Would you say the fishing is better on the east side or west side. Thought about trying SLP but not getting in the water due to the current. Once again thanks for all the info.

Both ends fish great, trout have been common, rollover pass would be a great spot. SLP would also be a very good spot. If it were me I would wade the bay at SLP during the morning tide, and then hit the surf a little further down towards Surfside. A lot of empty beach there for relaxing too.
Happy fishing!

Be careful wading as Joseph said. Dangerous currents can easily drown someone.

Saturday and Sunday will probably be moderate waves and brown water, but its hard to tell until you get closer to the weekend. If it turns out like that, fishing for res will be your best bet. Put a 5-7 in live or dead mullet on a large hook with a 3 oz spider weight on a fish finder rig and cast it out into the first or second gut.

Thx Mullets, I am actually heading out Thursday. So, I can fish Fri morning, Sat morning and Sunday morning.
I will try the mentioned. I will be out wading around in the surf. I would love to get into a red or two! I am probably only going to fish in the mornings as the rest of the day will be spent with family hanging out.
