Hit up Galveston Island Seawall this morning and had excellent success. For those of you familiar with the small rock jetties, we were fishing off of one decently in the middle of the cluster of them. Caught some mullet with my net in the surf for cut bait and after 10 minutes of soaking caught a nice 33" blacktip shark, was around 10-11 lbs. About to grill some blacktip steaks for dinner mm mm

Later I caught my biggest fish I have ever caught (and released) which was a 6ft hammerhead shark on half a dead mullet. Was soaking for a solid hour before this monster took off with it. Took 30 minutes to get him to shore on 30lb mono with 80lb leader. Pictures is included below. Was released with the help of some of the people there, everyone who was swimming around us decided to call it a day...smart thinkin!

Anyways...rest of the day we got a couple hookups but lost them in the hookset. Caught a couple small whiting/sand trout but nothing noticeable. Good luck everyone out there...mullet it the bait of choice!

Awesome catch for sure. That's something to brag about for awhile. We tried the Bolivar flats yesterday but didn't have much luck. A few small black tips, croakers, and one spec.

Good day! I know those people that saw you bringing it in were pretty nervous, haha.

Beautiful shark! Bet that was a blast!

Give a man a fish... and he'll tell you how the one he caught last week weighed more.

Nice shark. Glad to see you do catch and release.

What size were the whiting and sandies? Is the water still sandy near shore?

Whiting and sandies averaged maybe 6-8 inches with the 2 we kept being 13 and 14 (both whiting). Water was sandy but this was a couple weeks ago now
