Can someone tell me what kind of plant this is? This stuff is starting to really take over the pond.

Where did you get the pink hoe? I'm pretty sure I got it from Hoe Depot. I like me some girly hoes.

A small lake where I live has this too. Not sure what it is. The stuff grows like crazy when the heat of summer comes and rains mix in with it.

Hard to tell whether it is slender pondweed (Potamogeton pusillus) or southern naiad (Najas guadalupensis); one has alternating leaves while the other has opposing leaves - but doesn't really matter. The options and methods for management are generally the same for both plants. If the community uses a lake management company, the field staff should know how to manage excessive growths of all aquatic vegetation - without necessarily "eradicating them", unless that goal is the directed objective. Let me know if you have any questions concerning management options for this nuisance.

It looks like Chara (sometimes called Musk grass). Does it have an odor to it ?

I've got that stuff in my pond, along with eurasian watermilfoil. Really sucks.

That is absolutely Southern Naiad. Chara would not only smell, it would feel "crinkly" or "crunchy" as it deposits calcium. Chara is usualy only found in medium hard to very hard water.
Sago Pondweed (Potamogeton sp.) is close to that and found in similar situations. But I beleive this is Najas.
Good management strategies might incloude stocking grass carp. or koi carp, and/or tilapia as a biological control, this weed controls well with such methods.
It can also be killed with one of several different aquatic herbicides. Spot treated or whole hog, kinda late in the season for whole hog, though....
Usually I use a combination of fish, herbicide and physically removeing it. Too many grass carp or koi carp will sometimes stir the piond up when the weeds have been consumed.
alternatively, if the carp eat it all, another weed will likely take its place the carp won;t eat, like coontail.

Brett, it might be Najas - but is more likely P. pusillus due to the relatively long leaves shown in the OP's photos. Not really enough detail in the original photos to make a positive ID - but both species are abundant in SE TX. Management options are similar for both; but be aware that one plant is an annual and the other is a perennial - with the perennial proving more of a challenge to manage. Gig'em

By jove I think you're right....and I need to go look at some pondweed at my fishing club to be sure it isn't P. pusillus as I have had it identified as P. pectinatus (sago pondweed). But it sure seems to resemble your photo a lot more than the one of sago...then again, see if i can do this...sago pondweed in a hand look almost the same as pusillus and in some lakes I get Najas that has elongated stems, although opposite leaves. I generally use simialr managemant aproaches for these type weeds (when they are weeds and not part of the "garden").
